After a discussion with Adam (forum admin chap) the other day after the site went down, we need to find a way forward for the evvo forum. Does it stay or does it go ? The main reason I have heard for keeping it is the “How to” threads, however after Photobucket went odd and took everyones pictures offline, I don’t know how useful they are anymore.

If we are to keep the forum, we need help maintaining it and also promoting it at shows etc, rather than just the Facebook group getting all the traffic. I have been as guilty as anyone, as I have dropped right out of the scene in the last couple of years. Although after a sudden burst of enthusiasm, the Bug is back to full health again and possibly ready for a local show or two next year.

So, any idea`s / volunteers / suggestions for the site ?

I would like the forum to stay as it's the last and only UK New Beetle forum. As you say everything is on Facebook and Instagram currently, the problem is it's just easier to use FB as it notifies you of posts so you naturally reply.

I think as an information source (even without photos) it needs to stay. As they say once it's gone it's gone.

I don't think you'll shift people away from FB (there are so many new beetle groups it's unreal, and when people have a falling out it's so easy for them to just start another group) just this should be used in conjunction.

If we keep plugging it people might come back over.

What help is needed to keep it going?

Ideally we need someone to take over the background admin and hosting stuff from Adam. He says it is quite simple, but I think it will be a bit beyond me to do it properly. Maybe give the site a refresh at the same time too. Other than that, we just need a bit more traffic through here and to push the forum as much as the Facebook group.

I have to agree with Luke. It would be a massive shame to lose the forum.

I don't know what Photobucket are playing at, but I'm sure they will end up having to change it back to how it was because I can't see anyone paying for the service. At least not at the prices they want.

Is the fb group quiet at the moment ? I'd have thought there would have been more replies by now.

I'm here. Mainly go through the fb page, but then check here every so often, trouble is that there are so few posts here these days, and anyone asking for help gets pointed to the fb page because few people post. It would be a shame to lose the forum/howtos but you know time moves on. I remember Thanatos Bbs being the social tool of choice at university...

One thing I'd like to note though, important things will get lost on Facebook, there is no way to direct posts into different sections, and there isn't a good search for topics. The forum wins at this for me.

To start with we need more traffic through the site, probably through pushing it more at shows rather than the Facebook group. Then we could do with someone to take over from Adam doing the background web admin stuff. We could then look at maybe changing the look of the site depending on what people want.

I was hoping for a few more than the 6 of us that want to keep the forum :(
If there's no more interest, I will ask Adam what needs doing to just keep things ticking over.

Lots of forums are going the same way I'm afraid. Edition 38 used to be massive, but there is barely anyone there now

Unfortunately it's the way of the world. Facebook has made it so easy to meet lots of like minded people all on one platform. It's also very easy to start a new group or club as you don't need any technical knowledge at all to do it. Forums require not only finance to keep them going but also knowledge.
