The Beetle 2.0TFSI Turbo - Reifnitz, Austria 31st May 2011

Here are a few of my Beetle photos taken last week at the GTi Treffen on the Wörthersee, southern Austria. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed looking at the cars :)

    Excellent piccys! :D

What did you think of it 'in the metal'?
Is it much bigger than the current one?
What were the seats like to sit in? They look pretty comfortable.
Does the badge on the boot move like in the Golfs to open the boot?
How much bigger is the boot?

Sorry for all the questions

I wonder if you can get those red/black leather seats in a TDi?

The car is so much better in the metal - it IS a Beetle with a Porsche background but also a very modern and complete car. It is not a retro design anymore but part of the VAG family both past and present.

Generally bigger in width and length and making far better use of internal space.

Seats were current VAG spec - no surprises there but not overtly sporty.

Boot badge swivels / pivots to gain access to huge boot. The black car had the Fender audio install with the subwoofer in the boot - surprised I didn't photos of that but the black car wasn't available to all and sundry - it was 'guarded' at all times.

Both cars were production models so I'm guessing the red/black seats will be available. That said, VW show so many concept cars down there who knows what will actually appear.

€30K - I'd have one for that as it is a very complete car with lots of driver aids.

And yes, I would but it would have to be the R version to get my cash ;)

    Cheers :)

I'll have to see the price list when they come out over here. I'd quite like the red/black leather in a white car if I can spec it, but with a white dash and door panels:

I'm guessing you must be able to spec a different colour inside to outside on some models? As the white one appears to be black inside.

people get all upset when you say it not a beetle... bit like the people that say they will only every have aircooled... until they grow up lol

getting out of aircooled and going into water was the best thing ive ever done.. and trust me ive been more involved with aircooled than most of you will know !l lol

Brochures and specs coming later this summer - absolutely no info (printed or verbal) available although I did get a very smart 21st Century Beetle keyring on Friday - thanks Richard!
I've been promised The Beetle will be on display at this year's New Beetle Sunshine Tour at Lübeck in August, so maybe more info will be released by VW press there?

When you see one in the metal you'll regret posting that - the roofline is early Porsche and the feel is still Beetle - it has bucket loads of character that the Golf / Rocco / A3 don't have.
Wait until you see my A1 Concept photos - you'll probably hate that as well!!

The plastic used on the dash is awful and the doorcards are poop too. As soon as I sat in one I said dash retrim needed and the door cards are in need of some serious surgery - nothing that can't be sorted :D

I'm really liking the '12 beetle!

However, on the models displayed, I think the striping should be a one-stripe offset, with better finish at the hatch lid- still a fine looking car. Ii'm considering a TDI to keep my '01 nB company:).

I've been told that when you buy one your gonna be able to choose from different interiors, colours etc so you can customize it to how you want it.
