But you have the Golf and Polo for that. The Beetle now is a Lifestyle vehicle, not a people's car like the original. And all modern cars are getting bigger look at a Focus vs an Escort! In relative terms it's enlarged in line with how all modern cars have. I agree the price is high, but again cars generally are now are a lot more expensive than they were 10 years ago. My parents have just returned from the states and they said they saw loads. The US is the main market for the bug (they don't get the Scirocco) as long as it sells well there VW will keep making it!
Plus a lot of people's main issue with the 98-11 Bug was that it was too small - especially the boot. We've just come back from a week away with our large breed dog (who was on the back seat) and suitcases, travel crate, shopping etc all in the boot hidden away. Couldn't have got everything in the boot of the older New Bugs.
I just have to bring this thread back to life because I absolutely love the new shape. The old shape was a girls car, the new shape is more a blokes car. When we first picked it up, we have the 2 litre sport in silver, my girl said she felt like a drug dealer. All,wife-beating black inside and blokes wheels together with no flower. We have the new Golf, the new Beetle still handles more sporty even though they both have the same engine. Both 2 litre TDI, we get 49 mpg in shopping basket mode.
Comparing my 2013 2.0 ltr. diesel Cab. against my 2001 Beetle 2.0 ltr.auto Saloon...There is no comparison. the latest Beetles are vastly improved over the 'New' Beetle in terms of comfort, quality, reliability, styling and is more economical to run. I also own a Mk7 Golf Gti P/P and to be honest if I had to choose between the two, I would keep the Beetle. I like it that much.
