Robbie's coming up for a service in 600 miles and I'm wanting to have a go myself.
I've done lots of services on the aircooleds, and I appreciate that a modern diesel isn't the same!
So, any tips of links to how tos?
Cheers :)

Cheers Daryl :)
Yeah since he's treating himself to a shiny new radiator, he's going to have to let us do the service on him to save the pennys!

Good on ya.
I've never been back to a dealer's since owning my cabriolet. :)
Think all dealers are ****s to be honest and really don't like the thought of some tool working heavy handed on my pride and joy ;D >:( :-?

Well after the whole disaster with the timing belt half coming off and nearly ruining my engine, there's only one garage I trust, and that's the one he's currently at as we speak. Steve's family have been using them for 40yrs and we know they're not gonna mess us about. But - they have no courtesy car and are 60 miles away from me, so each time he needs something done I have to take days off.
Plus I like learning to do stuff - it's very rewarding :)

run the engine til its warm (NOT HOT)
get the front up on ramps
remove the undertray (if fitted!)
remove sump plug and drain the oil into a 'suitable container'
remove and replace oil filter
replace sump plug
refill with oil

Yeah that's the same as an aircooled (except location of filter).
Just wondering about the other bits you do? Like air filter? Pollen filter? Fuel filter/water seperator?
I lost my under tray about 15k ago on the M4 :-[

is really text book stuff lucy. air filter is unscrewing the cover and putting another one in, and the pollen filter is located under the left hand side of the dash.

Luce I can HIGHLY recommend Bridgeyate Motor Services just up the road from me, they are very honest, reasonably priced and careful with your car. They did a diagnostic on Gems Ka and because they couldn't find anything they didn't charge us for it. They aren't too far from you either.

Cheers Luke - might pop him up there for his MOT then, cos I don't really wanna bring him all the way down here for that.

Hey Luc
I can also highly recommend AudiVolks services in Keynsham, just up the road from me. It's a small, independent garage run by one man who learnt his trade working on old beetles etc. He's always been excellent with Petal, she's had services, MOTs and odd jobs doing up there and he never rips us off. He also does my Mum's 1999 Golf and my sister's Corsa! He really knows his stuff and I'll be taking the Polo there too.
Let me know if you ever want the number! :)

Cheers Vickie - I'll keep them in mind :) Robbie's just got to 80400 so needs a service soon. If we mess it up I shall be dragging him there ;D
