I've looked into it a bit but because it is normally aspirated there is little other than the usual breathing mods (air filter/induction and exhaust) and chip that you can do without spending BIG bucks. Thaose mods aren't going to get you huge increases either.

Sorry!

Aren't the turbos only for lefties tho? Sure I read that somewhere.

I seem to remember that was exactly the problem Flip had with his turbo, which is why it didn't make it :-?

It was off the road when I first joined CC and never made it back

I'm sure that his was a right hooker and that the turbo was for a left hooker, but whether that was the fundamental downfall or not I'm not 100% sure - nef or peelo are bound to know!

You can buy a Neuspeed supercharger to boost the power of the 2.0
Trouble is, it will only fit a LHD...no way will it fit the RHD model
Even then, it will only take it to around 140hp, instead of 115hp

Flip did turbo his, but then you need to upgrade so much of the engine to cope with the extra power

IIRC, Flip blew a hole in a piston or his cylinder head, due to the boost he was running
He never got it running right, and it would need ages on a rolling road and a programmable ECU to set up the fuelling to cope

IMHO, if you're going to all that trouble, either go and fit a S3/TT engine instead or a VR6....much more power even as standard, and more easily tweaked to give even more

It'll be cheaper, last longer, and be more effective in the long run

one word for you 'NOS' when you want to kick some ass you got it ,and when your pottering about you will still get good mpg (ish) cost about £500 for a kit ,a lot cheaper than a engine swap and if you sell the car you get to keep it and not waste loads of money on mods that you will only give to the next owner for f all. you dont build a car you can go out and buy (turbo) if i was doing a swap on my 1.6 cab it would have to be a r32 lump as vw never made one, what ya think ?

Yep, flip tried to fit a turbo that the seller swore blind it was for RHD even though it was really only for LHD.
I think he gave up in the end and tried to stick a superchrger on instead.

I think the general concensus is, yes the 2 litre is moddable, performance wise but if you really want big increases it is probably gonna be more cost effective to buy a turbo bug.

Now I have actually been converted into a speed freak I dont have the money to do anything, so gutted. Maybe santa can bring me a quater of the kit for xmas each yer for the next four years! ;)
