i've just had a panic attack that i've never checked my oil in my car and it looks quite low. :'(
I went to the garage and got some castrol edge 5w-30 (says vw 504 00 on back) but after reading my manual, it says i need vw 503 00. is this completely wrong?
also is it true about the 2 litre engine burning oil?

i'm completely useless at engine stuff!!! :-[

thanks for your help!

The 2 litre is usually pretty heavy on oil - i check mine every month or so. and i use semi synthetic..... keep an eye on it tho chick cuz you dont wanna seize your engine!!! i keep some in the boot just incase i run out and the light comes on (youre supposed to stop as soon as that light comes on and put more oil in! My light came on once on the way back from Newport on the motorway in the rain! that was fun....not! luckily i had some in the boot)

i was a bit of a dipstick with my dipstick, read it wrong! it doesn't look anything like the manual!!
the oil level is supposed to be on the screw thread looking bit isn't ?
i'm gonna talk to my vw dealer cos when it got its oil change in september, it says they put 0w30 into it and i want to keep my longlife servce thingy.
my head hurts thinking about all this stuff! :o

The level is the 'kink' at the bottom :)
