Over the last 2 days Robbie's been making bizzare noises. It's usually been in 1st gear when just setting off and he kinda goes "ooooh". At first I thought it was my foot rubbing on the plastic beside the pedals but it turned out not to be. Anyway yesterday I was pulling out of a junction and he actually said "oooohh nooooo!" :o the noise appears to be coming from somewhere around the gearstick.
So either there's something wrong, or my Bug's learning to speak and his first words are "oh no" probably picked up from the words I most say when in him ;D
Any ideas? I'm hoping my gearbox isn't falling apart.... :-/

I do hope its not your gearbox, but it doesnt sound too good. :(

He only does it every now and then, not all the time. He still drives fine, and the only difference is the noise - he's done it about 6 times now.

Maybe!
I'm still going with the whole flower theory tho - that explains the missing flower, and the weird noises...

Could it be a gearbox mount gone somewhere?
Beetle gearboxes have been known to go pop once they go past 50K tho :'( but I really hope it isn't that!
It isn't that hard to change a gearbox yourself if it was going anyhows Luce.
:Edit: Thinking about it we had a Transit that made that sort of noise, turned out to be the thrust bearing on the clutch (Gems old Ka made the same noise occasionally too) if it is that is nothing to worry about as its just a dry bearing, just budget on a new clutch at some point in the future.

He only does it very occasionaly - we went out 3 times in him over the weekend so I could show Steve what he did, and he wouldn't do it!
I would imagine if it was gearbox it would be grinding and making that noise all the time?
Could be clutch, but there's no slip or juddering.
I did think it might be a bearing or bush of some sort.

Yeah sounds like the thrust bearing, they go dry and start making "ooooohing' noises, just means your clutch is just starting to go :( It'll go on for yonks and yonks like that tho!)

Glad I can help! :D ;D
If anyone's wondering, I've traced the ooooohing down to the air con... It's still working, so I'm not too concerned.
