Hi I'm new in here. I need to ask you lot a question. Is it a problem if I've put petrol in my diesel engine? I realised after Id put in about 5 litres but I was too embarassed to make a fuss at the garage. I drove it home which is about 6 miles and it didn't seem too bad. Shall I just fill it with diesel and dilute the petrol?
thanks :)

Pray.
Obviously more diesel diluting it can be only be a good thing. If it's spluttering and chucking up then get it drained! Or it could be worse!!!!!!!

It should be fine. My mum did that in her Merc and it was ok. Just make sure you go back and fill it to the top with diesel, then for a while never let it go lower than 3/4 full so it's dialuted loads.

BTW it's up to you if you still run it - if it breaks I won't be responsible ;)
Oh, and I put £40 of petrol in my TDi once :-[ then £150 to get it drained, then another £40 to fill it back with diesel.
I won't be doing that again ;)

Our next door neighbour put £20 of petrol in his diesel and got away with it by draining the tank and filling it up with petrol - however, it it was my car I`d be straight down the garage to get everything drained and bled through.
BTW, it`s a regular occurence with my engineers. Mind you it`s an easy way to a day off, just fill your diesel Astra estate with petrol at 8am and that`s you off work for the rest of the day ::)
