Can one of you nice people have a peek under their cab for me? I want to know if they have a metal undertray under the engine. Pics would be great if anyone has one?
Thanks :D

Thanks :D I've been told Cabs have a metal tray opposed to the flimsy plastic ones tin tops have... :)

Cheers Daryl :D Is it semi sturdy looking or is it a flimsy bit of baco foil?

It goes "dong, dong, right stop hitting me, dong" when I tap it with my knuckle.

It would be really useful it it's not too much trouble :)
If the part number is obvious, that too - but I very much doubt it will be so don't look for it - only if you happen to see it. :)

Best I can do without getting it in the air I`m afraid - can`t see any part numbers either :o

Ah, very useful, thanks Graham! :D That tooks quite sturdy too - I'm suprised!
I'm sure I can confuse the parts guy into getting me a part number ;D

Looks a bit dirty under there though and that looks like a scrape at the front :(
I`d best get my polishing cloths out this weekend ;)

That black mark`s going to bug me now - I`ll have to polish it out tonight ;D
That`s only a leaf by the screw in the middle and the red isn`t as dirty as it looks as it was raining - but that black mark will be gone by the end of the night :)
Shamrockez
22nd November 2006, 13:44
I think the black mark is where it's gone through the paint to the plastic :(
Grahamini
22nd November 2006, 14:11
Hopefully not, I don`t think it`s ever hit anything :(
I shall find out later - mind you, you can`t see it unless you`re lying on your stomach about to be run over ;D

all similar marks on my bumpers is the plastic coming through - but as you say, u can't tell unless you're lying down.

Ha ! The mark polished out ! ;)
Couple more pics for you - looks like the main cross member bit is steel with plastic pieces screwed to either side

I wish mine would! ;D
The cross bit is the most important cos it's over the sump :)
Thanks for the pics... did u clean the guard?????
Grahamini

did u clean the guard?????
Who, me ?!?! Exactly how sad do you think I am to lie on the ground polishing out marks that no one apart from a worm will ever see and then to give the engine guard a wipe over with WD40 ?!?!!
Er, yes I did ... :-[ ::) ;D :P
Well, Rach`s at college and I was bored ;D

Graham & Rachell - do you mind if I use your number plate to get the right part number? Otherwise I'll never get the number for the right part ;D

i think my 2.0 2000 bug is missing its cover??
never seen one before, is it suppose to have one?
Shamrockez
6th December 2006, 20:33
If it's a tintop it should have a plastic 'dust tray'.
Mine fell off on the M4 last year. They don't actully protect the engine at all on a tintop.

6th December 2006, 20:46
Mines got the mounts but no middle section, I can see the sump and gearbox?? Thought it might have had a cover of some description??
Was gonna look at that diesel geek cover i mentioned to you previously but dont know how much shipping would be?
Shamrockez
6th December 2006, 20:47
Yeah it would have been a crappy thin plastic thing which is no good for anything but collecting stones ;)
I dunno about postage - quite steep I'd think.
Lemon_Bug
6th December 2006, 20:57
Hey me again, sorry.
Erm yeah it hasnt, just got a big hole where something should be i think? ;D
Shamrockez

I wouldn't worry about it :)

Just thinking about when I lower my bug about catching the sump or damaging it on something?
Shamrockez
6th December 2006, 21:32
What engine have you got?
The plastic one won't help protect you from damage. But the metal ones on a cab should.
Lemon_Bug
6th December 2006, 21:33
2.0 :D
Shamrockez
6th December 2006, 21:37
It should be ok at a sensible drop. But worth putting a cab one on for piece of mind :)
billybug
7th December 2006, 15:12
The 2.0 only has the cover at the front, it doesn't have one over the sump or gearbox (I thought Gertie was missing hers, but VW told me otherwise). I'm assuming there are other bits that guard fits to on the cab as fixing that to the flimsy side plastic bits would be a waste of time as they'd just snap if you smacked the undertray?
