Safety first - the cash detector things which set off the airbags have some sensors under the dash. Hopefully you're not going to be thumping the dash too hard, but lets disconnect the battery and wait 10 mins just to be safe :)
Next, turn the heater speed switch to speed 2 - it must be at speed 2 otherwise you'll pull the contact out of place and you'll have to take the centre dash off to fix it. Not the end of the world but it turns a 2 min job into a 20 min job.
Then take a flat blade screwdriver and prize it under the switch. Some people just pull it off with pliers, but this sounds like something which would end up with me getting smacked in the face.... so I use the screwdriver method. Use a bit of rag or electrical tape over the end of the screwdriver to protect the plastic from being scratched - I don't have anything on my screwdriver so i can illustrate this:

It will then slide out about 5mm:

Put the screwdriver down and just pull it out with your hands:

You're left with this:

So then take some long nose pliers and gently pull the bulb out. Don't grip too hard as you risk breaking the bulb. Then replace the bulb with one of these:

Once the bulb is in, reconnect the battery and check to see if it works. Also check all the speed settings on the fans to make sure they work too. Disconnect the battery again and refit the dial by making sure it's at the 2 position and push in gently. Reconnect battery and test again.
Hopefully all will be good :)
