Silver sprayed front grill
Stainless steel MG fog light protectors adapted to fit front fog lights
Stainless steel bonnet and boot struts
Clear rear lenses and VW mudguards to accomodate the reflectors
GPA aluminium heater vent surrounds, ashtrays, cup holders, vase, etc
Aluminium aerial
Kenwood flip-front variable display head unit
Kenwood 10-disc CD changer
Infinity 6.5" speakers
Self-dimming rear view mirror
VW "aluminium look" gear knob
Richbrook stainless steel gear shift surround

i'm always interested in other silver bugs to see what mods i can do to ziggy and i really like the eyelids and pinstriping on the door.
the thing i really like about silver nb's is that the colour is so bright and almost bluey. with your mods it just enhances that! :o

Thought I'd better update this thread as Bertie has some new shiny bits but, most importantly, some new rims and front brakes :D
After much stressing on my part after I bought a set of Porsche 993 brakes to go with my Porsche turbo replica wheels two years ago, the very ingenious Danny Allen took them off my hands and sorted out a conversion for me.
To go with the genuine Porsche brakes, I also decided to switch to a set of non-Mille Miglia Porsche rims, which are closer in appearance to the original Porsche rims and a little wider (8.5" rather than 8").
As Bertie was still very shiny after show and shining at GTI Festival yesterday (Mick Ashby's gorgeous RSI won), we decided to stop off and take some pics of Bertie and his new mods.
Few pics to tease you here...

Just to clarify that Danny supplied the conversion kit and our local VW/Audi specialist actually fitted them...which struts do you mean? Edit: And yes he is a 2L...
I've already had to buy a new set of brake pads as a pair went astray in the two years between me buying them and them ending up on the car (), so I'm well aware of the price  :D
Glad you like
Shamrockez
9th July 2007, 21:51
Do you still have the same stud pattern?
bugjemm
9th July 2007, 21:57
Hey Luce - are you busy working out how to get them onto Robbie?! :D I got a set of adapters so the Porsche pattern wheels would go onto Bertie's 5x100 stud pattern...
Shamrockez
9th July 2007, 22:04
is it just the wheels that are porsche patten? Would the brakes fit with normal Bug wheels?
perhaps ;)
bugjemm

LOL - they would look bloody good behind your white wheels!
Erm...right...I'm no technical expert as you well know (!), but the stud pattern for the new wheels is irrelevant to the fitting of the brakes...I believe Danny removed the middle bit from the disc in the pic below, and then produced some way to fix the discs to the hub, which he also had to modify in order to attach the caliper...
http://www.jscarter.net/images/Bertie/Newbrakes/1308%20072.jpg
The one thing I do know is that you'd have to have 18" wheels or larger and if you didn't have the Porsche to VW adapter, you'd need spacers as it was a very very tight fit and my old wheels didn't fit over the calipers...

9th July 2007, 23:24
Hey stranger. Looks like Bertie is causing a stir again. Good to see you on here although I'm not about much. Brakes and wheel look the nuts. I think what everone is asking is, are the new wheels porsche stud pattern, (so you have adapters front and back to fit the 5x130 pattern) or are the front hubs changed to 5x130 fit the porsche brakes and then adapters turn them back to 5x100 pattern?
bugjemm
9th July 2007, 23:32
Hello stranger indeed :D Glad you like them as much as I do!
The wheels are porsche stud pattern and I have adapters front and rear. THe front hubs are basically new beetle hubs with the caliper mount altered so the new caliper and disc will fit.
gratboyslim
9th July 2007, 23:52
All clear now. The adapters explain it. I think you are the first to do that over here to a bug. Top work. I know someone who will be very interested to see them in the flesh, our local porchfitter....
Hope all ok with you. We're old skool now with our cars.
bugjemm
10th July 2007, 09:37
Glad to clear that up :D I did think Chris (shao kahn) had had Porsche brakes on one of his bugs though
All is good here - work is busy as ever (must learn to say no to clients now and again!) but we're both happy and healthy, which is the most important thing :) We'll have to try and hook up sometime - trying to think when I last saw you  You doing Action up at the pod this year?

Just to explain what i actually had to do....
Jemm supplied me with a pair of calipers and a pair of discs with the porsche to bug adaptor plates.
She also supplied me with a spare pair of hubs
I spent about a week with them strapped to the mill removing a bit at a time until id machined enough off to get the caliper to sit where i wanted it too.
I then re-drilled the holes for the caliper mounting.
The problem was then that the caliper didnt sit cetrally around the disc, I then machined up some spacers so that they sat in the correct place.
Walla Job Jobbed :)
It sounds easy when i say it like that
As for a direct bolt on
 yeah right!!!

It;s would be simple for me to replicate it as i made notes on how i did it but a donor pair of hubs are needed for a start.
The the discs & calipers etc come to over a grand!
Then theres a fair few hours labour on the mill etc....
