Chris and Glenn spent most of today putting Jack up onto stilts and cleaning his arches ready to paint his calipers. *In between the showers they managed to get the front 2 done as well as cleaning all his wheels and removing his mud flaps *[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I think they look really good now and can't wait for Glenn to come back next week to do the rear two calipers as well as painting the arms to match *[smiley=tekst-toppie.gif].

used a wire brush to clean all the muck off - then some de-gunker to clean yet more muck off and then finished it off with a nice coating of Hammerite metal paint :)

FORGET THE HAMMERITE!!! you wanna use Japlac signal red from B&Q its only 6 quid for a pot and it lasts ages!!

Also its a much better match to the Brembos when you go for them, its a glossy finish. *My bro swears by it and has had it on his cars for years without any colour fade

here is a pic, obvisously its not my car, but mine will hopefully be getting these calipers on soon.

Just a tiny question on painting calipers, when you paint a caliper, do you have to leave the wheel off for it to dry out completely? And if so how long does the paint normally take to dry? :D

Yes - unless u want paint on your alloys? ;)

We left Robbie's for 24hrs to be on the safe side.

lol, yeah that's the problem we had - except we had 2, so we did the fronts first, then the backs a couple weeks later.

If you use the hammerite smooth you only need to wait till its rouch dry like we did before putting the wheel back on and moving on to the next one :)

Well i may try this.

So first step is to use wire brush to get rid of the gunge, then some de-greaser then finally paint?

I used (carefully applied by toothbrush) brake cleaner - you can get it from halfords. I used hammerite on mine, and even tho it said 1hr to dry, it wasn't, and I wasn't going to get red all over my wheels! I think we actually put the wheels on after 4hrs, but didn't drive till 24hrs.

Shamrockez

It doesn't need to be on stands overnight - I just didn't drive Robbie till the next day incase the heat of the calipers messed the paint up. The wheels went back on.

anyone know if you can paint this bit?
(not the brake disc, but the base of it that always looks a mess and rusts)?

if so what do you use for this, same sort of stuff as calipers?

Yeah you can but make sure you get a wire brush to it first. Either do it black or OEM light grey. IMO done paint it teh colour of the calipers.

Im going to get mine done in Japlac, does anyone know where you can get VW signs to stick on the calipers after??
