Need some advice from all you Car Audio experts, I want decent Bass in the Roadie, i've got an Alpine 1600 Active Sub but it isn't very good, so I was thinking of installing one in the front boot of Wimple (Okay so i'd loose ALL of my boot space, but hey ho! *;D ) Anyways its relatively small in there (about the size of a big Laptop) i'm just wondering if anyone could suggest what would go in there and how would it sound? *I would like a level of bass similar to what I got in the bug (I had a 12" Fusion Sub in there)
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. *I'd ideally like something that would drop straight in I cant be arsed with building custom enclosures plus it needs to be easily removeable so if I do need the boot I can take it out???
Just measured it, the size of the 'boot' is 35cm long, by 40cm wide by approx 40cm high???

forget ya boot unless the boot has an opening into the car to let the air from the sub into it, also if you want top sounds in a small car you will have to have it custom fitted.
Q 1, how much space do you have under the seats ?
Q 2, any space behind the seats (like mr2's) ?
My suggested install - 2x 10" audiobahn (piston) subs, @ £250 apx each, they work in very small boxes that you could put behind the rear seats just like you would see fitted in most MR2's with big ice, these subs will pop your windows no probs ;D
1x directed 1500d amp @£400, or something like that maybe Pro-Plus- big power for your buck :) and a nice set of focal comp's @ £300 mark, running off your head unit and if funds ava a focal amp or genisis amp to run the comps as they will be a little over powered with them subs ;D ;)also the amps are very small. total cost inc install @1600 mark. hope this helps you, BAD. :)

Theres hardly any space behind the seats (the Alpine 1600 just fits) the only real options (So Sextons told me?) was either by a 2nd Alpine 1600 sub and have two in effect doubling the bass, one behind each seat, or a custom build in the passenger footwell?

thanks for the big up boys 8-), as for your ice billy bug you can prob fit 6x focal or phase linear 6.5" bass speakers behind your seats add the cone area together works out at a lot more than ya old 12" sub :) 6.5" wont drop and give you window shaking bass, but the mid range bass would be **** hot for dance tracks, smaller the cone the easier it is to control and keep up with fast drum beats 8-).you can pick up the focals for a ton i think 8-) and with this kit in your motor it would be a real sq car that will whip alot of boys with boot's full ;D they will prob say where you hidden the 12"s 8-).sounds good to me 8-). p.s are you all coming up to the show at harewood house, leeds this year ? or other shows as we can meet and play some tunes ;D AND MAKE SOME EARS POP ;)

JL Audio make some 6" subs that are meant to be very good for their size. You could probably make some small boxes for them to fir them in the footwells or behind/under the seats. With your car being so small I dont think you will get the results you want without having a custom enclosure I'm afraid.
You would only need 2 of them though, not 6! ;D

:o you just said what i said i think, but 6 was just an idea,if you want big sounds to match the sound from 1 x 12" sub 2 wont do the job as it's the cone area that you need :).i sat in a 360 mod that had 4 x focals behind the rear seats and that was bad for what was in it, JL's will do the job as well as any but i think there amps are better than there speakers focals just have the edge for me.next plan for bads ice is to put said focals in rear qtr's run from a gennisis amp and run my rainbow comps up front from amp :)

Best option with really limited space is to go with the JL drivers already mentioned or with the Focal 5" sub-drivers.
If you really want sub-bass then you do need to take some time to get the enclosure right. If it's deep mid-bass that you want (which is what most systems produce) then you'll get away with a driver that performs in free-air down to 100hz that will sound ok. (Anything below 125hz sounds deep). As with all these things, think about what's going to drive it and remember that if it is not enclosed then it needs to travel a LONG way so mind it doesn't rattle against trim in front of it etc. or that you over-extend it and knacker the coil (eh Bourney!!!)

good idea but they always sound poor and not as good as amp and sub in a built box, also the price, anything that cost £120 for a sub and amp ain't going to be great :)
