Hi, I'm about to buy a beetle with 18" RS4 alloys, but the spare is a 16", probably the original. Is this OK/ :)normal?

Yup - don't worry about it. The tyre on the 16 will be much 'fatter' so the actual diameter of the 2 wheels should be pretty much the same :)

yeah that'll be fine - i ran round on 3 19" rims and my spare 16" for a bit - looked awful but did the job :D

Hi, Thanks to all that replied to my post about the 16" spare wheel.
I have bought her now. . the beetle . . I bought her last Friday.
Now I have a new problem . . to my delight I discovered that she had a detatchable tow bar, which might be factory fitted, I don't know, I'm the 3rd owner.
I am a keen cyclist, so yesterday we hitched up the bikes on a thule 9403 cycle rack and locked it in place.
1/2 a mile down the road and thank god I was only doing 30, I went over a small bump and the tow bar detatched leaving the cycle rack and bikes in the road. Again, thank goodness we didn't kill someone behind us.
At first glance I think the lock mechanism on the tow bar and failed. It you put the key in a lock position the mechanism still turns. Has anyone ever heard of this problem. I have searched the internet and I can't find one ever failing????

Sorry can't help with the question - but do you have any pics of the tow bar? Is the bumper cut to fit it?

Hi, right I've taken 2 pictures how do I post them, is there a picture upload facility on this site?
Anyway, there is a figure of 8 cut out underneath the bumper for the tow bar arm.
The tow bar is an Orbis tow bar which looks exactly the same as the one shown on the vw web site on additional extras.

:)Me again, saga of the orbis detatchable tow bar . . with no instructions.
I took Herbie into the VW dealership in Medway and the service dept were incredibly helpfull.
The guy there tried to fit the tow bar in the same maner that we did by twisting it and slotting it in, with no luck.
But after 15 mins on the ramp he had it figured out. You pull the twisting mechanism out to the side and twist, this releases the 2nd ball and the first ball detracts even further letting it fit normally.
Problem solved. . and it thanks again to VW Medway service team.

::) Hi me again, Can't sleep, just been designing my new plate that is going on my herbie, XX53 BUG on fancyplates web site. Question . . . as well as my tow bar dropping off my beetle, one of my stick on wheel caps has dropped off as well. Now the wheel looks awfull (RS4 18"), it is 90mm in diameter and is silver on black and covered in a plastic, where can I get these from? Nothing on e-bay, any suggestions. . .
I put 2 new tyres on her today because the guy a VW spotted the start of a split on the inside of one of the front tyres. Got a good deal from Kwik fit, Good year eagle F1 GS D3, they are doing 15% off for buy 2 or 25% off buy 4 and if you have kwik fit insurance which I have (really cheap) you get an extra 10% off. Bargain. It beats all the web site prices..

If you go to an alloy wheel shop/website like www.lovethosewheels.co.uk or www.wheelmania.co.uk they should be able to sort you out some centre caps quite cheap.
