She's definately gonna have some welding done plus lotsa other bits she'll need doing. Still - not expecting it to be a cheap one so won't be a shock, and she's worth it! :D
Lukey and Luc - can't wait for our old bug convoy!!! ;D

Vickie

Shamrockez

She's booked in for Monday!
Meaning I have all sunday to work out a way to get her there bearing in mind she's leaking petrol. Will it blow if I start her?! *:o
Shamrockez
4th January 2007, 18:09
Yeah whatever you do, don't start her!!!
Vickie
4th January 2007, 18:10
Oooh - ok! ;D
I'm guessing that could be bad?!
Shamrockez
4th January 2007, 18:15
It depends if you like pretty fires or not? :)
Vickie
4th January 2007, 18:18
Aaah ok - the answer is not!!
The garage is only down the road (it's really only a 30 sec drive!!) so maybe I could push her?! If I rope in my bro and dad and ian? ;D
Shamrockez
4th January 2007, 18:21
Tow her :) Put the rope round her front beam and then to another car's rear towing eye :)
Vickie
4th January 2007, 18:25
Noodle? Does he have one :-?
Do I just need to keep the rope tight? Does this involve brakes?! ;D
Shamrockez
4th January 2007, 18:28
Yes he has one - it's under the bumper:

Brakes will be useful if you don't want Petal shaped dents in what you're using to tow with :)
Vickie
4th January 2007, 18:35
Yay cool - I think the hardest bit will be getting her outta the garage - you'll see why on Sun! :D
Shamrockez
4th January 2007, 18:35
Cos of the road?
Vickie
4th January 2007, 18:48
Lol oh poo forgot to add that to the equation!! Yep that and as the garage opens onto a pavement the levels are different so there's a bump to push her over!
God, why is nothing vw related ever easy?! ;D
Shamrockez
4th January 2007, 18:49
lol cos that's the way they are! :D It makes it fun! Pull her out the garage with Noodle! :D
Vickie
4th January 2007, 18:51
Lol - wait til Ian sees this post! We'll have to do it when the road is quiet, shouldn't be too bad on a sunday evening

i don't think the rear 'towing eye' is actually meant to be used to tow or pull anything? the front one is definately there for that purpose, but i think the rear one is more a lashing point
i have heard a few times of the rear 'towing eye' giving way when the car is towing another which has broken down etc, with the result being a lump of metal flying off (with a rope attached) and hitting the car that is being towed......

Oh ****e *:(
Jono
4th January 2007, 20:21
Oh ****e :(
but if it is a short ditance and at lowish speed i'm sure it will be ok? just be careful!
Shamrockez

I've heard that the rear one is much stronger - hence why it is fixed. The RAC man didn't use Robbie's when he picked him up once cos he said he's seen far too many front ones give way.
I towed a fully kitted Bay with my Clio once and that was fine:

Oooh can we come round too on Sunday? Petals wheel day! What time you all getting there?
Shamrockez
5th January 2007, 00:12
I dunno what time we're getting there. Vickie?
Did you get any shocks?
Vickie
5th January 2007, 17:14
Ah yes! When I got home I had 2 big boxes...
1) Shiny new baby moon hubcabs. Yum!
2) Front Shocks!! Yay! I rang GSF luc and went for their best and most 'expensive' (they were only £15 each :-?) Germans ones.
Of course you can come over Luke! I'm not sure about times - wanna get it done before it gets dark tho as there's no light in the garage!! ;D
Shamrockez
5th January 2007, 18:40
Are they bug pack ones? Red?
You may need a tail pipe fitting kit as they go pretty rusty and are prone to breaking.
Vickie
6th January 2007, 10:22
Errrrmmmm uh ooh I think I've cocked up!
They're black and they're definately not bugpack ones. I asked for front shocks for a 76 and this is what I got!! ;D
Shamrockez
6th January 2007, 12:10
Hmmm, you may need to take them back and swap them for Bugpack ones as they're likely to be the same ones you have - so you'll have the same travel problems as you do now and she'll sit on the shocks rather than the adjusters. GSF are good for taking things back and swapping them.
