What sort of sign was it Luc?

Shamrockez
11th January 2007, 12:40
One of those road signs which are collapsable. there's a shipping container randomly parked on the pavement then a load of barriers bunched up next to it and some of those workman type signs next to the barriers. I parked behind it cos that's where I can see Robbie from work. Parked there twice a week for about 5 weeks now and they've never moved. Wasn't too windy when i parked there at 6:50am.

Aw Luc that sucks. Is there much damage?

It was absolutely tipping it down when i came out of work so i didn't have a good look. It's stopped now so i'll go take some pics.

Grahamini

Hope the damage isn`t too bad Luce :(

We`ve got garden tables blowing past our window in Weston - it`s blowing a gale out there ! :o

Shamrockez
11th January 2007, 13:27
argh, it's worse than I thought :'(

I saw a group of 5 of 6 little lines but I found about 3 or 4 more groups of scratches but they didn't come out on camera..... but this one is the worst:

Oh sh*t Juce - thats not good......cant you get onto the council and tell them whats happened? they might have insurance for this sort of thing?

Grahamini
11th January 2007, 13:32
That doesn`t look good :(

I`d be looking for the owner of the sign if I were you - think what damage it could have done if it had hit a person !

Shamrockez
11th January 2007, 13:33
I don't know who the owner of the signs are - I'll have to look to see if there's an address on the back of them or something.

They've been there for weeks and so far I haven't found out what the hell they're there for and what the container is for.

The signs haven't been weighted down by sand bags or anything.

Nico
11th January 2007, 13:43
if they have not been properly weighted down i would think you have a much stronger case.

sorry to hear about your bad news

Ali
11th January 2007, 13:45
yeah i would say you have a case Luce - if they are like the ones you showed us then i would think its the highways agency or the council. Start with the council i would......

billybug
11th January 2007, 14:02
Oh sh*te Luce! :'(

Yep take pics of the signs, container, where Robbie was parked, the actual sign and the damage. *Find out who the owner of the equipment is and contact them, threaten to sue if you have to.

I'd also contact the police and the council as its a public health hazard, that might help backup your case also.

I think so, unfortunately.

I enjoy yelling at people! ;D

Do it by letter if you want - probably better to have a record of everything as well.

Definately worth a go though - I successfully claimed against a company that was cutting the grass at work after they showered the side of my old Mini with stones and chipped the paint quite badly.

Shamrockez
11th January 2007, 14:31
Hmmm letters aren't too scary.

I don't wanna be one of these people who claims for anything tho. They'll probably blame me for parking near it, or cos I had 2 wheels on the pavement or something.

Grahamini
11th January 2007, 14:56
If there were no signs or restrictions saying you couldn`t park there then why wouldn`t you ?

Just mention how dangerous it could have been it had hit a small child.

Vickie
11th January 2007, 14:58
OMG luc I would be fuming! Poor Robbie! Make sure you get out there now and take plenty of pics and write a letter. It's their job to make sure stuff like this is done properly. I know what you mean about not wanting to claim for everything but if it wasn't your fault why should you have to pay to get him fixed?! *>:(

Just gone out and taken more pics. Sorry about the quality - I've been waiting in for a parcel to turn up so I didn't get time to go when it was light.

When I got back there the sign had already fallen down again:

Looks perfect Luce, you could call Morrison Construcion and if no joy go to Wales and West Utilities - doubt you`d get far with the emergency number, it`s probably just a helpdesk somewhere.

Looks like this lot - http://www.morrisonplc.com/

oooo eck! *:(

best of luck sorting it out.

talk about windy, i was in Liverpool for a meeting in the Cunard Building this morning....jaysus it was blowing. The wind was so strong that i had to turn the Festa round to face into the wind so i could get out without having the door ripped off its hinges. :o

the Thelwell Viaduct was "interesting" too

They look like gas board contractors. That number is the gas board emergency number I think?
I have heard of Morrison's and you are right the signs should be sand bagged. The only arguement might be why were you parked near to them, it doesn't look clear from the photo's?
None the less they shouldn't have hit your car go get 'em gal. ;)

Might also be a good idea to go straight to the horses mouth and speak to a manager at transco, they will ulitimately be responsible for their contractors.
If you want me to shout at them for you shouting at people is my speciality *;D

Shamrockez
12th January 2007, 00:16
In the pics I wasn't close cos when I got there the sign was on the floor and I didn't want to run over it, so i parked half across the access road while I took them. Before I parked close to it because there's the access road a car spaced gap, then the container - so it's ideal for parking normally cos people can't park close to him.

All those contrator types have insurance against stuff like this... I doubt they will even contest it, just send you a cheque for the damage.

Shamrockez
12th January 2007, 22:33
Do you think i should get a quote for repair first?

Jono
12th January 2007, 22:37
they will most probably ask for a couple of quotes once they have received you letter and contacted you to discuss the details of your claim

Luce, I can recommend the local Chips Away chap - he came out today to fix a kerbed wheel on the cab and did a top job.
PM me for his number if you want.
