OMG!! He runs!!!!!! He sounds so beautiful!!!!! We've been having issues with him and replaced almost everything and he still gave us the same symptoms - just turning over unless we put etrol/easy start/wd40 down the top of the carb... we'd taken the carb apart twice and cleaned it out but it still wasn't any better... so today we took the carb apart again and gave it a through clean again, then blasted it through with the compressor and after a few splutters while the fuel was coming through he burst into life!

:D :D :D :D :D

Never has an engine sounded so beautiful to us! :D

Chuffed doesn't even come close to it!

Not much more to do now before MOT. Just having a nightmare with the electrics! The indicator switch doesn't seem to want to work right - sometimes all the lights are going at the same time, other times it sort of works and at times it just buzzes - but most of the time there's smoke pouring out of it, which isn't a good sign - so if anyone has one for sale, let us know!

We even had him moving under his own steam - 1st, 2nd and reverse all worked, but the brakes still need adjusting and a bit more bleeding so we didn't really want to be going in 3rd or 4th!

if i know anyy thing about old bugs is check the earths, clean them all up and preferably wire them all up to one good earth behind the dash somewhere nice and dry.

good luck :)

Well done Luce, I still remember the thrill of getting our beach buggy started up for the first time, we were skipping round the garage making 'whooop whoo hoo' noises and high fiving each other like a right pair of plums. It's great ;D

Yeah we've been cleaning up the earths - this seemed to make it even worse tho :-? I think a new indicator stalk and wiring is needed cos it feels really worn and it's the only bit of the loom we haven't replaced. We'll try some electrical cleaner on it if we can find a shop selling any, and try and fiddle about with it to get it working. If not, a new one.

;D we were jumping up and down a bit too! Well I was anyway ;D we've had him almost 3yrs (bought him just after Dubfreeze when we realised how much worse busses were going for there!) and never heard him running or ever seen him drive so it was lovely to see :)

ROCK ON! 8-)

Found the problem with the indicator stalk. Where the 2 earth wires are soldered on, they're mostly come off, and touching other things. This would account for the weird behaviour and the smoking! So we'll be trying to solder it on to repair it next weekend.

Not only does he run, we've just taken him for a drive round the block! :o (only a slow one round the block of garages so we didn't have to go on the main roads).

You get my text earlier, Vic?

Congrats Luce!!!

We've had a busy weekend too! Harry now has his new carpets fitted, with squishy underlay so he's much warmer inside now, and looks much nicer! Just want his doorcards and parcel shelf to arrive now so I can finish him! :D

I'll get some piccies of his insides once he's finished!

You can still have it, the bulk of it is OK, but bits and pieces got damaged where they were glued down.

Come have a look, see what you think, if its OK take it, if not its off down the tip! ;D

Are you able to collect the bumpers/carpets soon tho as i'm being moaned at to clear up the garage of all my stuff! ;D

Also i've noticed a couple of little bits I wanna get touched in on Harry, what times is that guy where petal is open? I was gonna pop down there on Friday afternoon and get a quote for the little bits I want done :D

Luke - yay that's so cool!! Thanks muchly, I'll try and pursuade Ian to take us over on either fri or thurs nite (which one is better for you?!) as I can't get over otherwise! :-[

Noooooooo you can't take it to Petal's garage!! He's only doing work on her when he's got nothing else on so he doesn't need anymore distractions I want him to do my bug!! ;D

Only kidding! PM me if you want his n.o - what you want doing?
