Thats right!

If it is from the DVLA, then that should be it until you transfer it to another car (must be the same year or new than the reg).

If it is from a dealer or a private sale, make sure the retention certificate has the transfer already paid or this will cost £80 to assign it to your car.

When you come to transfer it next time round, you will need to either put it back on retention (currently £125) or if you have both logbooks, you can just do a plate transfer (£80 to assign)

Hope that helps!

Mine was already paid for so when I took it to DVLA to get it assigned to Robbie, I could put it on that day :)

If you go to a DVLA office to do it, you need to take the right bits to get it the same day.

When I done mine last week, they needed;

My logbook (v5)
Retention cert. (v778)
MOT cert.
Current tax disc
(Don't worry about leaving the car with no disc - the girls at DVLA said that its ok as it's being amended)

If you do it over the phone (takes about 1-2 weeks) :(, you'll need to send the v5, v778 and MOT off, when the new tax disc arrives you then send your old one back - Job done [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

PS: That is a cool plate! *[smiley=thumbsup.gif]

If you take it into a DVLA office they'll do it on the spot for you :)

Just get some like ours without the extra badges or spaces and you should be ok, failing that Dubmeister do the proper UK font and GB badge on a pressed plate - still not strictly legal but it would take a very anal Plod to notice.
