This How To covers replacing a coil-pack on a 2.0L 2002MY Beetle
The Coil-pack provides the High Power electrical pulses to the spark plugs, via the HT Leads, with this in mind and so as not to trigger any dashboard fault lights or engine codes,or Electrocution,
DO NOT have the keys in the ignition.(leave them in your pocket:) )
1. Open the bonnet, and remove the engine cover by pulling firmly on the forward corners. the cover is held in place by 4 rubber mounts, and then the rear corners

2. You will need to remove the secondry air-pump to get access to the Coil-pack .Remove the electrical plug, (beside the Oil dipstick) ,and the 2 quickrelease (air) hoses.
Undo the 3 nuts with a 10mm spanner and a socket to reach the bottom nut.

The coilpack will now be visable:D
3. Remove the electrical plug, and then the 4 Ht leads.
Warning The leads must be fitted in the same positions on the replacement Coilpack, the leads are of unequal lengths and it should be obvious where they go,as the picture below shows

4. Undo the 3 bolts with an allen key (sorry forgot the size).
The bolts on my Bug have been in place since new,8 years,& would not come out using a multibit screwdriver

6. Fitting is the reverse of removal and the whole job should take less than an hour to complete:)
Note:- No part numbers are given,as they differ with car age and engine sizes
Your part supplier will be able to match the correct Coilpack to your car ,usually by using your Reg plate details.
