After threatening for a while I thought I'd follow on from the Locks how-to. Plus the amount of questions that get asked about them i thought i'd try and help out.

Tools needed:

T15, T20 torx bits
Phillips no.2 screwdriver
8mm allen key

Right, let's go. First of all you need to open your boot and remove the trim on the back of it. For this you'll need the screwdriver and there's 2 screws to remove, these are located inside the grab handles.

Then once these are out pull downwards on the grab handles till it pops and work your way round the catches, they're all just pop in jobs so they pop right out again.

You should be greeted by this sight:

Right if you want your boot to shut nicely there's no need to go any further than this really as you can adjust the lock up and down till it works right. What you'll need is your 8mm allen key and make sure it's a good one as these bolts round out easily as they're made of monkey metal.

See those 2 bolts?, undo them and adjust till your heart's content. If you're having problems and having to slam your boot it's more than likely this that's moved upwards over time, just move it back down and voila, nicely shutting boot again.

Part 2 to follow.....

Part 2:

Right the next is really only for those peeps with swivel badges and who have that annoying rattle when it moves around on the back.

First thing to remove is the little bar that works the lock, it just pops right out.

Following on from above this is where your torx bits will come in handy. first there is 3 screws holding the black harness on, undo them with the phillips. Then you need to unplug the electricals and with a bit of wiggling it will just hang down.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/Nighttrain1974/Locks%20how%20to/IMG00038-20100102-1207.jpg

Look back up there and you should then spot 3 screws holding the lock in place, you'll need your t20 bit for them. Now when you undo these be careful as those are the last things holding your lock in place, get ready to catch!

Also after you've taken the screws out there is a little rubber hose connecting the lock at the very back and you'll need to unhook this. I normally leave this till very last as it stops the lock falling down.

When you've got all them out the lock will just fall out and then you can take your badge off as well, lift this from the bottom edge and it just pops out.

Now if you suffer from the dreaded boot lock badge rattle then here's how to sort it. You'll need a bit of rubber vac pipe and a stanley knife. First cut off about 20mm worth of pipe, then take your badge and turn it over, the bit of pipe you just cut off is going on that bar that's on there.

What this does is hold it firmly in place, your badge will be marginally harder to swivel round but that's the pay off.

To put it all back in is just a reversal of the above, dead easy. Badge in, lift up lock, rubber connector on, lock screwed in, harness on and screwed in, electricals connected and last but not least the little bar that opens the lock. You can adjust that little bar but i woudn't worry unless your boot isn't opening at all.

As one last thing there is one other thing you can adjust in the form of 2 little blocks at the sides of the boot. These ensure your boot sits right and doesn't move about. Adjust with the t15 torx to suit.

As a little side to this if you want to adjust your doors as well then only thing really you can play with is the lock catch. Undo and move till you door lines up and sounds nice when it closes.

Hope that little lot helps. Sorry about the big pics but i left them that way so you can see things on there easier, mods feel free to adjust if you want.

Good luck.

Cool thread - I have an annoying rattle at the rear of mine - I wonder if its the badge - it started after I replaced it....

A couple of things tho:

Its worth saying that the correct tool for the boot catch adjustment is an 8mm triple square bit (you use the same bit if you need to remove the door catches) - stops you rounding anything off then ;)

Also if your doors have dropped/moved a lot you can get some adjustment at the hinges, but it takes a couple of you to do that as they are so heavy ;)

Most peeps won't have those tools though so kept it to the basic stuff. Cheers for pointing it out though.

As for having a go at adjusting hinges then feel free, but you're entering a world of hurt there. Seen so many people try to do that and make it so many times worse than it started. Leave that to the pros, not worth it imo.
