View Full Version : 2.0 - Any good??

Hi John,

Have been reading through the posts etc here on the DNA forum, and we have the 2.0, fast enough etc for my wife as she drives it 80% of the time, but it has flat spots and there must be a bit more power in it that could be unleashed?

So what would a DNA tune do for it? And are we talking megabucks, or reasonable cost??

Just wondering whether to put it on the list of things to do with the Bug over the next few months???

I know its not Turbo so it wont be like unleasing a crazed animal but will it perform better and what about MPG???

I am in Devon, and I have read about you just having the ECU, is it easy for someone like me with very limited skills to remove and have you do it then send it back???

Thanks James.

The 2.0 isn`t that bad. You`re never going to break any land speed records but it`s ok for what it is.
Fuel consumption isn`t the best and some can use oil (although ours doesn`t :p ) but for general cruising around I reckon it`s pretty good.
IIRC John can unleash a couple more bhp but as cabs are for cruising I`ve not bothered with ours

Hi James,

Yeah there is a few horses you can unleash, only a few but like you say the OEM software does have the odd flatspot, these can be tidied up and throttle response improved as well. MPG can improve slightly too, but like you say without a turbo it's only minor, these still qualify for the evvo discount where I do them for just £150 and I can email instructions of how to do this by post as well :)

Cheers,

John

Cheers John, many thanks for that, its on the list of jobs to be done then :D its mainly that whilst it is generally fine, it is just a bid dead when you really want the power, overtaking etc, you put your foot down and its like 'hello, anything there......' so presume that sort of thing could be improved, mainly a more even spread of power is whats needed

Just seen your 'how to' on taking the ECU out, looks like even someone like me might be able to do that!! :-)

Many thanks for the reply and at that price it seems excellent value!

James

I'm guessing Yep,but not at the same time:p

I believe its more about a smoother delivery of torque for a 2.0L

All the above state "stage 1 ECU Remap" - does that mean that you can do a "Stage 2"? if so what kind of hellraising does that unleash?

John@DNA
11th August 2009, 17:31
Yeah stage 1 is just the standard upgrade, Stage 2, 3, 4, 5 on some is possible, usually involves hardware changes though! :)

Cheers for that...

last(ish!) question...

(Hypertheticly of course) Do you have to declare a Stage 1 on insurance... is there any visible evidence of a modification? for example, how would i know that its not been done previous to my ownership - if you get my drift.

Insurance companies seem to gain great plesures in having my eyes out at any given chance! :D

10 years in this industry I've never known anyone be challenged by an insurance company, hypothetically of course!

No visible change :)

Have I got this right then the 2.0 slow would become 129BHP?

Beetle 2.0 = 115 BHP+14 BHP

John,

whats the difference on the fuel side?

I'm coming up yours April next year to show you the Lejog Bug, and while I'm there I'm maybe looking to getting it done.

I'm not into the speed just the MPG/running better side.

Its a 1600

John@DNA

Even on the diddy NA 1.6 you can see savings of 2-3mpg, on the TDI's you can see loads better

It does help with mid range pick up on these as the 2.0L isn't too fussy with back pressure for mid range torque, top end is improved too.
