Guys I havnt found out about finance as i think i could be easily tempted but something keeps saying dont get yourself involved. Ive had Billy for just 9 months now but already have my sights set on getting a new shape. I brought mine last June for £5100, not sure what i could get for it now but its still in immaculate condition and now has 49000 miles on the clock x reg, winter pack, 1.6. (bright blue colour). I was hoping i could get £4500 for it what do you think? Ive found the most beautiful looking white 06 beetle, 1.6 with 30000 miles on the clock. Want white bad as i think it will look bloody nice to get some black wheels on it! VW are selling this for £7495 i thought that was a bloody good price. What are your oppinions on finance. Am i gunna be mega ripped off if i wanted to borrow say £3000?

Any opinions or comments would help :)

Abi

Go in and ask them - find out ;) alternatively speak to your bank - they might offer you a good deal on a £3k loan.

 I know what you mean - I have no idea either! I dunno what's good and what's bad - this is why I take Steve with me, and deal with Geoff who I trust not to make me sign up to anything too dodgy!

I got a loan to get my bike... 3 grand from northern rock over two years. That was way before all the **** hit the fan. for that I payed back around 120 a month and it had no early pay off charges.

Going through VW you will get ripped off on finance deals I'd imagine.

I'd say you wanna make sure you can pay every month when people are lossing their jobs. Last thing you want is for you job to come under threat and risk loosing that and having your car ownership uncertain as no job means no car payments.

Check out sites like fool.co.uk for their loan advice and calculator.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I dont think you'll get £4500 for your X plate bug :(

I only paid £3k for my X plate 2.0 last month with 45k on the clock, FSH, 2 owners from new, and the winter pack, so I think you'll get £3-3.5k for it at most :)

I'd ask the dealership; but do your research on bank loans and basic credit cards first. Then when mr salesman gives you a price, you are informed and can say... hmmm, that's good/bad/same compared to my other options.

I'd suggest that the loans will be cheaper than finance though. Or a credit card; IF you can pay it off before 0% runs out OR you are organised enough to keep swapping in to different cards.

Just don't get sucked in by salesman **** - I used to work in a dealership and have to say - it's quite easy to confuse, excite and sell to most. Best bet is walk away, with the figures on paper and think it over. If they try the old, but you have to sign today - walk. It's a crap attitude.

Just my opinion.... If it was close to me; I'd go with you - I love a good sales barter.... :D

If your desperate for a three grand loan look into egg crdit cards, there doing 0% at the moment. this means that purchase's you make you dont have to pay interest on the money you have borrowed. After 6 months they will be sly and try charging interest. At this point you want to get a new card transfer the money to a different company and start your interest free for another six months. Close your egg account down, then start a new account six months later. Its easy really.

Dont go to the VW dealer, they charge 14.5 apr which is a right con. But if you have some balls go there and try and swindel them down, whats the worst that can happen, they say "no" so what! Say you want 0% finace and see what they say, they might surprise you!

Thing is unless you are very lucky you wont get £4500 for your car! Look on Parkers, it values your car as a trade in at £2360 with 80k on the clock, adjust that a bit for the lower mileage and you're looking at £2800ish as a trade in value, private a bit more :)

Ouch have i really lost that much on it in 9 months :( i did have a look on autotrader thought the prices were quite varied so was confusing. Guess im going to just have to really research this and make sure i want to go for something like that. Just dont want to be tied down for too long. I wasnt sure if it was best to change your car mor regular like yearly or keep it for ages. I would like to think i could change it more often then wouldnt loose as much when i go to sell it.

You change it to suit you TBH, but NB values have dropped in the last year or so, I was surprised at what I got for £3k! For £4500 now you can get 02 plate NB's.

I don't think there is one rule to suit all on changing cars. You do what you want to do. One thing is for sure, and that is the value of pretty much any car you get is going to fall (doesn't apply to some, but does to most). By how much depends on the future and we can't predict that.

If you do change cars, then personally I'd only go with the 0% creadit card deals if you are uber organised and are sure that you'll be able to pay it off before the deal expires, or are able to get another 0% deal. I say uber organised as if you don't get it right on the 0% deal side and the deal runs out, then you can get stung for interest on the amount that the purchase was for, and not for whats left to pay off. Crap, but things like that are what these crafty banker types do.

I think its about patience and investigating this stuff until the right deal comes along and you know how it works. You've also got to try and get a better deal. Until you talk to these people, you don't know what trade in they will give you and what they will knock off the new car.

I think you could get £3800 for yours if it's in top nick. If I were you I would hang on to it for a few more years and save up for a new car. Your beetle won't depreciate that much more over the next few years if you don't put mega milage on it.

if you like the car you have and its not giving you any problems why change it theirs not that much difference in the newer and older models

I'm not a great lover of credit loads

save for the new car you will love it more and cash is a good bargaining tool

also you will get better money for your car if you sell it private than from a dealer

you have lost the main amount of money on the car you have why spend more money just to lose the same amount all over again

credit is not a good thing as right now you never know what can happen

I went in today for them to tell me wednesday is the one day the finance manager is off and regulations means no one else can talk to me about all the different offers etc. How crap is that, its also hard for them to tell me what my car is worth untill they new which one i would be wanting to part exchange it for. Cheeky eh. He did say one thing. They have great finance offers going with brand new cabs worth 14000 but they may end at the end of march. Nice try but thats no where near what i was thinking of lol. Maybe it is best to stick to what ive got, guess it cant loose its money a massive amount more (i hope), think i will start saving hard. Maybe make a few changes to the card so dont get bored. Would like to treat myself to some black or white wheels. My sensible head is taking over now me thinks :)

the thing is i cant see new beetles dropping below £2000 for years to come as long as its in good condition you may get £3k

cars bottom out at a certain price

and new cars bleed money for the 1st few years

Go see them again and test drive the car you are interested in, and get the trade in price for yours. See what kind of deals you can get for finace from them and from other different sources...

Then you'll be informed enough to have your heart and your head to follow.

Personally as you're not thinking about uprgading to a different model/engine size I'd go with the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it"... And 100 quid spent on a really proper profesional vallet/detail will probably have your current car looking better then the newer one you are interested in with their showroom vallet anyway. Add to that the little/subtle but cheap touches that a lot of the peeps on here make to their beetle and you'll be quids in.

I`d be tempted to go that route, stick some wheels and springs on it, spend a weekend detailling it and then do a few shows. The old shape Bugs are better looking anyway ;)
