From inside the boot remove the square grilles (on a cab) using a trim tool or something similar (blunt edged screwdriver) by prising them out.

undo and remove the plastic nut (keep safe).

preferably grasp the lamp unit with your fingers between the seal and the plastic lens and pull. If you can't get your fingers between the seal and lens then carefully use a trim tool or blunt screwdriver protecting the paintwork as you do so with a cloth.

undo the wiring plugs depressing the plastic clips at the end of each socket to remove the plugs.
Now would be a good time to clean the paintwork around where the seal goes and yes you may notice from this next shot that your bug is made out of polystyrene.

Carry out any maintenance work change bulbs fit replacement lamps etc then reassemble in reverse order (watch out for the two metal spring clips that hold the lamp in make sure they don't scratch the paint).
Job done.
