Thought I'd show you some pics of Harrys very special new engine :D

Instead of going bigger, I have gone original and less power sourcing a proper '58 3-hp engine for him! Means he's gonna be deathly slow now (esp compared to Hatty!) but finally pretty much original!

Its come out of a Texan Splittie - the engine no says its a March '58 engine, and as Harrys a Feb '58 its almost month correct! :D

It was covered in dust tho!

We've cleaned all the tinware up, gonna re-paint it this week, get the block cleaned (the engine had a hornets nest and half a Texas desert over it!)

Rebuild the fuel pump (diaphragm leaks fuel into the engine) get everything clean and the engine serviced, refit everything , then I'm gonna bench test it before fitting in Harry as I haven't heard it run yet (I was told it runs nice, altho it does have a bit of endfloat, so I'll save up to get it rebuilt at some point in the future), but £80 for a 30hp engine it was a bargain and worth the risk - the tinware alone on its worth that!

So fingers crossed in a few weeks he'll have the 'correct' engine in him :D

Actually does anyone know if 30hp engine have seals on the oil cooler as this engine didn't have any!

I also need to get the preheat pipe on the inlet manifold welded as theres a hole in it.

Theres another cheap 30hp engine on VZi, it needs a new crank but thats only £80 as well and is complete :)

Started painting the Tinware today - used Hammerite spray - really good stuff, seems to leave a nice finish, and minimal prep required (just my kinda stuff!) :D

Some piccies:

Still got loads to paint tho, also need to clean up the engine block and get that looking shiny :D

Also ordered a load of parts it needed like a choke cable, metal fuel lines etc - early engine parts are EXPENSIVE!!!

I just hope after all this time/money the bloody thing runs properly!!!

I did a bit more yesterday, Jim welded a few bits up for me (cheers again dude!) the exhaust and other bits, I tried to rebuild the fuel pump then lost a crucial bit as it pinged off across the garage and now I can't find it, so I'll have to look for another pump (Wont be cheap :( )

I also bought myself an ankle grinder - makes bare metalling stuff much easier :D

I'm hoping to have the engine in a state to be fitted in the next month or so :) whatever my plan is to try and have him ready for Oktoberfest as we can hopefully come along on the Sunday :D

you will soon wonder how you ever survived without an ankle grinder! Do you have any of the flappy pads? They're the best for getting stuff back to bare metal :D
