ok, so the last few days the bugs been in for a good service and MOT.. :-) pretty much sailed through the MOT. One spot of welding, only tiny though.. :-) and a couple of electrical faults light not working and repeaters on one side not working.. So we dig a little deeper to to find that the cars been wired up by an actual cowboy...!!
Wires all over the place, some wires that aren't even in use!!??
Oh and some that are corroded.. So the cars gonna need a dull re-wire as I don't really fancy it going up in smoke..
So if anybody know what I'll need and how much of it I'll need I quite fancy tackling it myself over the weekend so I can get it back in on Monday to pick up the mot.. :-)
Any and all help and advice is grateful..
thanks
K
p.s. i also need a tyre ;) 155-15

You can buy complete wiring looms. Try GSF or VW Heritage.

I got my loom for Bella from Heritage.... was supposed to be RHD but obviously wasn't
Rewiring is pretty easy tho to be honest - you just have to be methodical and do one bit at a time. Print loads of wiring diagrams from Vintage Bus off.

ok, so today i looked at the wiring... then i went to Halfrauds to look at wires and connectors and all the rest of the stuff i'll need....
Then i pondered over the price, so i then decided to look at the price of the whole loom considering it will be pre cut, factory colour coded wires...
No brainer really me thinks...
Any opinions??
a few sites selling them..
http://www.jbugs.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=WK-113-70-71-ALT&Category_Code=5015
$229 = £120
http://www.vwheritage.com/ssp/Electrical/Repro-Wiring-Looms/?templateID=ssp
£219
Thinking it may be a bit easier using the loom?
What do you think?

don't get one from an american or european site as it will be LHD and you'll have to cut or lengthen most of the wires.

:( thats a shame as the price difference is good..
Will have to work extra hard this week then to afford it...
But hey.. all for a good cause... :D
Are they easier to fit Lucy? as apposed to just buying the wires and making the harness...?
(Lifting all the carpet up to check where my wires go, was quite happily surprised to find the floor very solid..   )

Well we found the ready made one fine in Joey :) And Bella's was ok once I'd made the LHD loom into a RHD one.
I think I'd miss out an important wire if I made one myself :o
Glad the floor is solid! :D
oooh - top tip! Tape some strong wire (i.e washing line) to the loom before you pull the old one out, then tape the new loom to the wire and pull it through. If you just pull the old loom out, it'll be a nightmare getting the new one in.

why not try getting one of the Auto Electricians that are on VZi to give you a quote?
One of them might be based in the midlands may be reasonable
:)

I've found http://www.thesamba.com (http://www.thesamba.com/) really quite useful for diagrams recently, too. Might be worth doing a search on there K.
