Sunday October 12th @ TGI Fridays, Reading !!
The usual frivolities will be occuring - couple of prizes to be given away - more info to follow ....
(Due to the present economic climate TGI`s can`t offer the usual discount on food :( )

Will try to bring the Beetle to this G Unit.
I'll also speak to Pork and see if he still wants to do some sort of award.

why dont we go somewhere else then?
sounds like a bit of a cop out to me when they are guaranteed x amount of hungry people to turn up
im pretty sure they should be able to offer some kind of deal, as having a guaranteed full restaurant has to be worth it

There are plenty of places outside of Reading.
If anyone is interested I could do some reccies.
BTW can I bring the goof? as Syd will be long gone by then :(

TGI`s are unable to offer discounts to anyone other than staff at the moment. I`ll try and get something off them a bit nearer the date though.
I know a lot of companies are making some severe cutbacks at the moment so I`m not surprised really.
I`d rather keep it at TGI`s if poss as that`s where the other meets have been and we need to start publicising this asap if we are to get mentions in the mags.
BTW, club members in other VW`s will be welcome but will have to park seperately so we can keep all the Bugs together for the pics.

ok cool
are you going to try and get newspaper/magazines to pop along?
could also speak to some vw mags and see if they will do a little feature after the event, if we supply the photos and stuff?

I`m going to mail the local paper and the VW mags. Supplying pics and a write up might be an idea - I know thats what they did for Cruz to the Prom.

Yeah good plan, although the magz would prob prefer to send their own photographer to be honest, worth a pop though :)

well we did hazels open day with her (at madmatz) and while the mags wanted to do the feature they couldnt send a photographer for such a relatively small event so they asked for us to supply photos and a write up about the day :D so i figuired they might say the same about the reading meet :)

seems like a strange time/place to express those feelings? has someone said something to p*** you off or something?
well I for one hope you decide to come along....and I hope you will bring your bug, its supposed to be a big bug meet for everyone that loves there newbie to gather and have a nice day looking at everyones bugs and having a tasty meal
Sorry that you didnt feel welcomed last time, there are a lot of shy people about who dont like to approach new people but once everyone is introduced you normally cant stop em nattering
heres an idea for this year.........i know its a bit sad but it might work lol
why dont we have name tags so that we know who everyone is, that way it might make it easier for people to approach each other?
Doodlebug
14th July 2008, 17:50
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo name tags....no with a big N and O, lol, i think id die of embarasement wearing one, and wouldnt even talk to the insects that hang around on my bug lol
yellowbug
14th July 2008, 17:52
well i can understand you not wanting to wear one......why would you want anyone to know who you are, then everyone would know how smelly you are
yellowbug
14th July 2008, 17:53
ok so maybe not name tags (gotta admit as I wrote it I wondered if I could stand wearing one lol)
but it would be worth trying to think of something that makes it easier for people to approach each other? something so they know who the people are that they normally talk to on here and stuff :D

To be honest, outside I generally thought most people were quite friendly and it was fairly chilled. If you don't know anyone it may be a bit more awkward when people move on inside for food and then the tables form with people who know people...
But from all the clubs I've been invlovled with; nothings really different. Show up at a few meets, speak to a few on-line and over time people get to know who you are and then meets become more fun each time.

thats true :D
i can see what you mean about inside.....I actually said to marc at the time that it would have been good for the tables to be set up as one BIG table so it would have kept everyone together to get to know each other

Let's see what the list of names is like. If anyone is a new face, make yourself known on the list before hand and maybe some of the long standings can keep an eye out and make sure you get a bit more of an intro.... :D
Also a good way to get together with more is join one of the convoys. Which for me is one of the best parts of any meet. Nothing like a long line of beetles to stop a town in its tracks.
P.S I'm not a long standing; can someone talk to me please :D

good plan, get a list together and we will do our best to involve all new comers :D lol
equally if you are a newbie take a look at peoples bugs on here so that you can make a beeline for people when you get there.....you can look for me if you like lol yellowbug with red interior, red headlights and red graphics :D
oh convoys are fun :D i love the look on peoples faces as the third or fourth dub tootles past them lol

why not have everyone getting a couple of minutes to describe their bug, the mods they have done, the spec and future plans
breaks the ice and means people may see a mod on another car they would have missed etc
i enjoyed last year but only spoke to 3 or 4 people i knew as i can be a little shy and everyone seemed to be in groups, but an ice breaker would definately help everyone to mingle

Sounds like a rehab clinic J! lol
Here's a tip. See a car you like and what seems to be the owner - say "hi my names bob - for example off the forum, sweet motor" and bobs your uncle fanny's yer aunt.
Random post above, yeah it can be a bit nerve racking meeting new people but meeting new people and making new friends is part of life. I didn't hardly know anyone one here in person until doing shows etc, that's what it's all about and am real tight with some of the people!
Good example is aload of mates of mine with proper lairy show cars went to Magny Cour at the weekend, some other people off a modded car forum who haven't even met before in person (only chatting on forum) all tagged along with their cars and spent 5 days together at the show, staying in the same hotel, at the show, convoying, general banter and so on. I think that's a wicked way of doing something that your all interested in.
Thing is, if you don't make the effort to strike up a conversation, how will you ever meet new people?

Nooooooo ! Tried that at a Mini club I ran years ago - if someone doesn`t want to talk to someone new they won`t talk to a whole group of strangers at one time
Best bet is what Luigi says, if you see a car you like / recognise then go and talk to the owner and take it from there.
Hopefullly we`ll have the gallery back again soon so everyone can post pics of their cars and themselves so you should be able to recognise people that way.

F*ckin' el, is it this first day of primary school or what!?! How old is the majority of the people on this forum, and reading back people are intimidated by talking to other people about something that everyone has in common. Madness.

can't help being shy or not very confident!? trying to get out there more but its not as easy as it may seem to more confident folks.........
but i'll be there for the meet
J
yellowbug
15th July 2008, 22:27
yeah if you are quite a confident person it can be hard to imagine what its like for someone who is a little shy or reserved in these situations
i reckon we just say that those of us that arent shy and know a few people already will make an effort to include any new faces (if there are any lol)
but equally if you are new, try to make yourself known and get in the thick of it...if you stay out on the edges it will be harder to spot you and welcome you

Hey!
Cool - hopefully I'll be there - do I need to do anything other than being registered here?
Having seen those pics, poor Flo will need some attention to even look half decent :(
Maybe a show flower lol
Do it matter if you don't do any mods?
ooooh and today I got really excited coz coz a pale blue bug I been waving at for weeks, saw me first and flashed! lol ok I'm sad :o
yellowbug
15th July 2008, 22:41
lol
dont think you need to do anything ....... just turn up
oh and of course you know that if your new you have to bring cake :D
ok not really but it was worth a try :D
your bug can be completly standard or modded to the extreme, you will be welcomed either way :)
just turn up with a smile on your face (and some cake in the car) and you will be good to go
and im just as sad as you I get so excited if I get a wave or a flash first :D

God, was thinking today about the very first vdub related meet I went to. It was a deep dark winter night at a pub in Bristol and it was a KDC meet I think? Or maybe even before KDC was formed? Just a load of randoms getting together off of VZi.
I went on my own in my bug and was petrified! Luckily I spent the evening chatting to Anton, Jim and Tomarse. And the rest was history!
I think you've just got to swallow your inhibitions and go for it! I was an 18yr old girl on my own, if I can do it - anyone can!
