By reading a few of your posts mate, it seems your more than qualified to answer this!

Ive got a 2001 1.8t @ 53000k miles. The oil in the car at the moment is horrible and rather low, so its due a change i think!

Im having problems finding the right oil! Halfords recomend i run semi-synthetic, but im thinking the 1.8t maybe happier with some fully synthetic... What would you suggest matey?

Also, have you heard of people running the larger Passat filter so that they can safely run that little bit more oil? - Im guessing more oil, marginally better cooiling??

Cheers for your time John!

If it's low top it up regardless!
Might be worth running some flush through this as if the oil goes sludgy in the oil feed pipe to the turbo it can be fatal to the turbo!

I'd use the filter for the beetle, you're gonna get negligible improvements for a whole lot of messing around! Better to run good oil and change it regularly.

Oh and get it remapped ;)

Cheers for the response John!

What grade oil would you recommend for me?

I dont mind paying £££ to get the best stuff...

As for the remap, ill deffo be coming to you, just gotta get some basic stuff sorted first, the cars currently on the original cambelt (i suspect, no proof of either/or) so id like to get the plugs, oil, cambelt, and maybe a full set of forge silicons before the remap. Personally i think the Beetle has too much power for the lack of handling at the moment, and a decent set of coilovers and arbs would help me use the stock power a little more effectively....

Of course you are the Pro here, so nudge me if im chatting poo poo :P

Cheers again!

You don't want to chip your Turbo, you end up with points and a hefty fuel bill as you cant help ragging it everywhere!

Yes defo making sure she is healthy to start with, if you want to retain the comfort and still have good handling avoid the coilovers and go for something like a set of Koni dampers, Eibach springs and some Eibach ARB's, you'll get superb handling and you'll keep your teeth :)

Oh and regarding the oil, stay away from VSI quality and servicing and go for a good synthetic like Castrol RS or similar

Hey John,

I wanted to ask a few questions re. the remap that you carried out on my 2L Beetle on the 18th Apr. Can you email me on drrn22@aol.com so that I can reply and email you directly and check a few things with you!

Cheers
