why oh why do people lie to you when you order stuff?
I called spirit of the fities last week and asked how long it would take to get a carpet set
' I would send it out by the end of the week ' was the reply
So I ordered an oatmeal carpet for ernie and some underlay
Then when I was making my lunch today I thought I would give them a call just to see when the carpet should arrive (since I am having it delivered to work I like to know when to look out for things)
'Oh that should be out today.....oh no actually I havent got the carpet in yet.........I have called to check and I SHOULD get it by the 27th/28th January.......so when it comes in it will be top priority'
now is it just me or is this really bloody annoying, I dont mind how long stuff takes provided you get told from the beggining, and its not even as if they called me to tell me straight away......so if I hadnt called today I probably wouldnt have found out until I got fed up of waiting for it to turn up

It is annoying; having said that; being in the automotive carpet trade; if the mills let you down abroad then ya stuffed.... Most small manufacturers probably also wouldn't have a system to flag which customers are awaiting the stock to call them...
But either way, it is annoying. For me, my reaction kind of depends on the reaction I get in return. If they sympathise and seem to care I usually give a little slack. Even more if they give a discount :D

I hate it too when people say one thing and mean another. Like when companies let you order something and then tell you its out of stock and you have to wait weeks not knowing when its going to arrive instead of saying its out of stock in the first place, i run an online shop so i know how easy it is to say somethings out of stock :(
We didn't have a problem at all when we used spirit of the fifties and they rushed our carpet out for us as we needed it in a hurry, the only downside was it took us a while to get through to them. Going to give them a ring regards new carpets for the Karmann this week so hopefully they will have something in stock for us!?!? Btw Oatmeal is a good choice, thats the colour we have in our 66 and it looks ace if i say so myself :D

oh amethystbelle any chance of a photo of the oatmeal carpet please and thankyou
I have asked spirit to send me a photo to confirm the colour (as I received a sample from heritage the other day that was supposed to be oatmeal but I can only describe it as chocolate brown)
I run an online shop too, also on my own so I know its not that hard to know roughly whats in stock, I certainly wouldnt tell someone it would be out ot them on a certain day if I wasn't sure I had everything I needed to do it
Think I was more annoyed that he didnt seem bothered about it to be honest

Spirit do two oatmeal carpets ones square weave and the others loop pile and i think its the square weave thats a darker colour just like the VW Heritage one which i don't class as oatmeal at all, its more brown then oatmeal. We went for the loop pile as it was the perfect colour ;)
This is our carpet when we were fitting it.....

Have fun fitting it! It's a pain
If its anything like mine was from Spirit of the 50's some holes wont have been pre-cut, so you may have to do one or two bits yourself.

... and ... just to add to an already difficult job... there's a particular order for fitting the sections... or they won't look right at the end. Make sure they sent you a sheet which details which bits get fitted first - i have one somewhere if you don't :)

If you do fit them in the wrong order tho, its easily remedied :)
Basically the bit over central tunnel fits first, then the side bits (over the heater channels by the doors), then all the bits in the front around the footwells, then the central bits on the floor pans.
I don't know about the rear bits as Harrys was already nicely done :)

When we fit our new carpets in Vinnie, we're thinking of leaving his 1959 carpet in the back, it's perfect without a mark on it.... the rest of the carpet is....erm... shredded and hardly there lol

i think you should make the interior absolutely perfect to contrast with the ratty outside :)

I agree, same with Luce with Bella, make the interior mint :D
