Hey guys picked up some stock 4 stud bug wheels the other day in 4.5" 2 have very good 155r15 tyres on the other 2 have nothing just wondering what tyre options I have?

I was gonna opt for 145 65 15 smart tyres but have since discovered that a 135R15 may be a better option? How easy are these to come by?

Bearing in mind i'd like to use them atlas whitewall flaps aswell, what tyre should i go for

I like that fat rear thin-ish front look too

Any ideas?? :D

You wont get Atlas flaps on 145's dude :)

They will be too big for the sidewall - you need stockish size tyres to run them safely :)

I know of cars running 145s and 135s with atlas flaps. I dunno if they're cut down or not tho?

I'll find pics

That ones perfect

I don't think i'm gonna get whitewalls onto smart tyres and like you say luce, it'd need to be much lower (well it will be much lower, have to learn how to adjust my beam to it's lowest setting)

Bit concerned after reading those threads about how useless whitewall flaps really are

Surely they can't be that bad why would they sell them?
Luke, how did you fit yours? Did you speak nicely to the tyre fitters?

Must be honest, i'm going off the idea a little, i like the way they look but don't want my tyres exploding and i'm not forking out for real whitewalls they're a fortune :(

what style of adjusters have you got?

I know of a few Splits who have lost tyres on the motorway due to flaps! they're supposed to be ok if you make sure they're always lubricated enough with the special grease.

If I wanted white walls, I think I'd go to Bay Area Rods and get them painted on by them. Sugarbug had her Bug done by them and they look ace!

Just found some whitewall paint on frosts that i might try :)

No idea what adjusters i've got, how can I tell? :)

Crawl under him and take a pic :) They'lll either be 'sway-a-ways' which are bulkier, or what I've got on Bella's new beam (there's a pic in a Christmas thread I think) which are the puma style ones.

Both easy to adjust :)

When I had Levis (the jeans bug) I bought smart car tyres for the front - ready to be dropped on adjusters... I had the tyres fitted and drove around a while on them at stock height, as I was going to get her adjusters fitted, she did look (ahem) "silly" with mismatched size tyres and a mahoosive gap under the front wheel arches where the tyres were smaller... moral of this story... if you're fitting smaller tyres, make sure you drop the car at the same time... hehehe :D

(btw... I got the smart tyres online - mytyres.co.uk - they very reasonably priced and delivered quickly - got them fitted on at local garage for £10 each side)

My Dads a Tyre Dealer ;) so we just took them to his mates Tyre place and they fitted them for me :D

To fit them tho all you (or the tyre fitter) needs to do is break the bead then slot the whitewall flaps in between the bead and wheel rim, then re-inflate them.

Don't forget to put red rubber grease behind (available from Frosts) them otherwise they rub your sidewalls away! I have a groove in my sidewall from them but as my tyres were only a tenner each I'm not overly bothered.

I nwas gonna go to Bay Area Rods myself but the guy never got back to me so I gave up and bought flaps instead.

Given up with mytyres as my local tyre place is usually as cheap and thats a fitted price, cheapest i can get artound here for fitting is £15 a tyre which just makes it silly

No idea about the back i was gonna leave the 155 15's that are on them, on

No idea what else i could fit?

I've ordered the whitewall paint from frosts as it was only £20 so worth a try and I trust Ria to do them

I can always get flaps in the future

I think I've got 165/80s on Bella which are what you're supposed to have for the gearing, as far as I know :)

MrYellowbug

Do they fit on the stock rims?

I went to the local tyre place and said, "I've already got some tyres, so how much to fit them?", when he told me, I asked him "how much for cash?", it should have been £14.50 each but he did them for £20 for the pair :) (it was our local branch of Stapletons, within an ickle MOT place) . With MyTyres, there is a list on fitting places that do discounted fitting if you buy tyres from MyTyres ;)

On the rat-bug we run Firestone 165 15's on the back, but no idea what the middle number (e.g. 165/??/15) is - they're really fat though... but we've gotta replace one very soon...

Thats what i may do for now then, pop some 165 80 15's on the rears and use the 155's up front till they need replacing and replace them with smart tyres and lower the bug more then

Sounds like a plan

Shamrockez

yep they do.
