Harrys getting a New Years Make Over!

Harry goes in to Mark at VDub Resto for a bit of a make over on Jan 3rd :D

He has a small rust bubble appearing under his front headlight so the wings coming off and being resprayed, also on the edges of the front scuttle there is some small blistering - also being re-painted and he has some micro blisters and small scratches on his roof so his entire roof is also being resprayed.

He should be uber shiny for the new year then :D :D :D

At least then I won't be quite so paranoid about having him out in the rain (at a show or something) as the rusty bubbles I'm worried about will have been sorted :D

Yeah still having his original and expensive to replace wings I don't want a rust hole in them! the bubbles are really tiny - but you know me :lol:

lol, we bought some wings that are original 58/59 and they cost us £500 :eek:
- they are mint though...

So instead of being paranoid about rust bubbles, you'll be paranoid about scratching the new paint :D

Just dropped Harry off for his makeover :D

He's now having his two front Quarter Panels re-painted, his front wing re-painted and his entire roof re-painted :D

I figure I can get this done now before I grow up and buy my own place, plus they are small bubbles at the mo, I'd rather get them done now than wait until they are gonna cost a fortune to repair and are big holes, his paint will be almost mint then too :D

Good to read about the extra care being taken on Harry :) I'd of left them to turn into bigger bubbles :rolleyes: Bet you can't wait for him to be back and just running a duster over the new paint. I love smooth and shiny ;)

Be great to see all the evvo Beetles in a photoshoot :cool: Now i'm learning more and more about the old Beetles on VZi will be even more interested in seeing the pics :)

Hope you get a dry day for it, although a photo shoot in the Snow would be Stunning :ghug:

Oooh, I'd like to see what it's like - need some places to take Bella (eventually) for decent pics.

Altho in Langport there's a great old building with old fashioned sign written/painted signs with 'Langport Reclamation" written on them - I recon Bella would look ace infront of that building! :D

Just had an update from Mark on Harry, he found the start of a few bits of rust at the bottom of the front wing and front quarters so he's bare metalled and respraying his entire front end to ensure nothing will come back for a long time! :D

Harrys back :D rust free and shiny, he'll need another polish in a few weeks once the paint hardens properly but he's looking good :D

He's had primer then 4 coats of base coat and 4 coats of lacquer

:lol: nobody would want to come back as that car - I was REALLY tempted to try and get it through a flood on the way to Swindon the other day, but Gem wouldn't let me :( I thought it might learn how to swim :laughing: and I'd get a new car :D

Its fooked anyway stupid thing, goes back to Mini again as the ABS only works on one front wheel! And the other wheel is ultra sensitive so the ABS cuts in for a living on that wheel, stupid thing, nearly put me into the back of a Clio the other day!:rolleyes:

:lol: poor Petal! It's been over a year now! On the 22nd I've had Harry a year!!!

With regards to where I've had the work done, well all I can say is Mark is a top bloke, genuine and honest, loads of people have used him on KDC. I wasn't 100% happy with the finish on Harry as its a little less shiny in places so he's coming up tomorrow to my house to flat and polish him again to get him 100% :) Now THATS customer service!

If you want someone who does a good job, goes that extra mile, ie instead of blending the top bits of the front quarters where the bubbles were, he resprayed them entirely, ensuring there was no rust anywhere else for no extra cost!), is honest and photographs the work he does, and is overall a nice bloke Mark and VDub resto's your man (used to be Classy Campers). I know I sound like an advert for him, but I am genuinely really impressed with the work he does and service he gives.

He charged me £375 for the work, that was less than he should have done as the materials alone were £200!

As I'm seeing him tomorrow I'll ask him for you, alternatively just give him a ring on 07899772169 he'll be able to give you an idea of price over the phone, he tries to stick to the price he quotes you too :)

Well Mark came to finish polishing Harry today, took one look at him and decided what he'd done isn't good enough as there was a very slight reaction in the base coat layer in one bit (I didn't even notice it :lol:), so he's going to re-paint Harrys roof and front Scuttle again, in a couple of weeks time!

Seriously guys if anyone needs resto work, or custom mods to modern cars then Mark is the guy to go to! If it aint perfect then he'll do it again until it is!

Oh and Ria I asked about Ernie and he said about £225-250 to re-paint his roof and front scuttle (as its all pretty much one panel), he'll remove and refit the front and rear screens as well to do it right :)
