my insurance called earlier to say that they've authorised the repairs to my van :)

I've been in touch with the bodyshop and it's going in a week today (Thurs 3rd Jan)

can't wait

oh yes, and seeing as i had a bit of a Chrimbo bonus from work I've decided to treat it to a makeover once he's fixed up. I've got hold of Charlie's number (Campervan Crisis) and am gonna get a quote for some nice new paintage!! ;)

Oooh, excellent! A black cloud with a silver lining :)

Gonna go with the same colour? Or a new one?

Duggy
27th December 2007, 18:03
New one or ones ;)

Shamrockez

Oooh, are you letting us know what?!

Duggy
27th December 2007, 18:43
he's gonna look more surf bus when finished. Something bright and cheerful and maybe two colours.

Maybe Patel White over Pacific Blue:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/thedugmaster/Paint/27L398PacificBlue.jpg

or Pastel over Turquoise:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/thedugmaster/Paint/26L380Turquoise.jpg

Marina Blue:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/thedugmaster/Paint/16L54DMarinaBlue.jpg

Niagra Blue:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/thedugmaster/Paint/11L53DNiagraBlue.jpg

or as an outsider maybe even Holden Opanline Blue FTW!!:

undecided as yet though, just kicking around some ideas :D

Here's a mockup i did of him in white / red with a surf logo:

All look like they'd be ace! :D

The red/white you did on him does look rather snazzy tho!

Duggy

just kicking around a few ideas at the moment really. As soon as he's been repaired I'll give Charlie a call and see if he'll give me a quote for a prep and respray. Some of the guys up here in the Midlands have / are uing him and they are saying that he's reasonable and works fast. We've all seen what he can do too! :D

Glad its getting all sorted for ya dude!

Is the van still in OG paint? IMHO It would be a shame to change the colour if it is.

If you are goona change it tho the red/white van looks V nice too :)

Duggy
27th December 2007, 19:21
its in the original colour but has been repainted in the lat few years by the previous owner. If it was the factory paint then i wouldn't even consider changing the colour.

We're having a dilemma with our splitty at the moment over paint... it has original 1960's signwriting on it from the store in America that had it, but there have been repairs to the panels and some have gone through the artwork... we wanted to repaint it totally without the artwork, but we have been told by some dub-peeps that it will de-value it by a couple of g's if we get rid of the writing... which means that if we did repaint it in the original yellow colours, we'd have to find someone that can re-apply the writing by hand again... sigh ... but rub it back a bit so it doesn't look spanking new ;)

p.s. Any chance of pm-ing us the number of Charlie, please? Muchly appreciated :)

p.p.s. We had insurance news yesterday, too... after writing off our bmw in August, the insurance have FINALLY settled up!

finally took it in at 8am this morning and.......i've just this sec called them and they reckon that the body lads have almost pulled the original front panel back out into shape already!

All being well, that'll mean that he can keep his OG front panel and not have to have any replica panels welded on.

Happy Happy Happy :D

oh yes, and they're gonna give me a quote for a prep and respray after he's fixed ;)

I'm very pleased with the work that has been done. There has been precisely no welding, just good old fashioned dent pulling, panel beating and a lick of paint! They've even managed to do a pretty good job of the colour matching, although i have to say that the shine of the 2 pack paint puts the rest to shame!

Even more determined to get the whole van prepped and painted now.

Shamrockez
12th January 2008, 11:54
Wow, you'd never know it had been hit!

Looks like it wouldn't need much prep for a full respray either :)

Duggy
12th January 2008, 11:59
it does look new from the front :D

i need to give Charlie a call now ;)

Blugg
12th January 2008, 12:02
 Pretty amazed at the result.

Always amazes me how they do it the olde fashioned way. Nice work :)

1958 Harry
12th January 2008, 12:09
Dude to get the other paint as shiny as the 2pack use some colour magic on it polish it right up then wax it, you can't tell the difference then ;)

Trust me it works, the bits I've had sprayed on Harry are 2 pack, the rest is straight black, with a bit of effort you can get the shine the same :D

Duggy
12th January 2008, 12:15
some of it would need to be colour sanded and G3'd first as close up it isn't all that clever.

Having seen the front I'm looking forward to 'hopefully' getting it all painted up.....something bright and funky!

bet you are well pleased :)

have you chosen a respray colour yet?

Duggy
15th January 2008, 21:45
I've spoken to Charlie and got a quote for the respray now....:D

I need to call him again towards the end of the week and get it booked in.

I still haven't 100% decided on colours yet but the quote I got was for him to 2 colours ;)

Duggy
15th January 2008, 22:13
Yes it is great to have it back. I'm looking forward to getting it all painted for the summer too. I can't decide whether to go with deluxe screen seals and maybe even deluxe trim too. What d'ya think?

yellowbug
15th January 2008, 22:15
im sorry whats the deluxe stuff.....I know im useless :)

Duggy

'Deluxe' buses had a chrome insert in the window rubbers and a chrome trim aroud the belt line like this one:

the window seals are a bit dearer but the beltline trim is A LOT! :D

Shamrockez
15th January 2008, 22:56
I like delux trim on bays, as long as it's not randomly half way down the body like this:

1958 Harry
15th January 2008, 23:02
I think it looks cleaner without the trim IMHO, the trim looks right on Splitties as it goes down the front (like on Joey) but it doesn't look right on a bay :)

Plus you're gonna have to drill holes in that perfect body! Not something I'd like to do on a bay as good and original as yours!

Duggy
20th January 2008, 20:26
You don't see many of these about, its one of the last 200 special edition German built Bays me thinks.

I agree about the chrome trim, it does look a bit random sat there in no man's land down the sides  :D

I haven't made up my mind about the trim yet, in fact I can't seem to make my mind up about anything....including the colour!

I better make my mind up soon though ;)

Duggy
26th January 2008, 17:25
sorry haven't got any pics but have go some progress.

the van's been stripped of all its lights, trim and glass and we've now dropped it off at Charlie's place. He seemed impressed with the condition of it and said that having something solid will be a welcome change from all the '****e' that people bring him.

Anyways, the colour scheme has been chosen and all being well it'll be ready next weekend!

Can't wait! :D

gee thanks :)

i managed to get a tiny bit more done tonight before the heavens opened again. I've refitted the latch, handle, 1/4 light, glass and most of the seals in the drivers door. I just need to door the sliding door seal and handle etc and then the front lights and wipers and it'll be pretty much back up and running.

Duggy
10th February 2008, 15:46
what great weather this weekend! :D

anyway, I've finally got everything back on now. I spent most of yesterday and this morning going over it with G3. There's an awful lot of acrage on a panel van, my arms are aching now!
