Some of you guys might know that as well as a 1959 rat-bug we also run a 1964 Splitscreen Deluxe Campervan... we put her into our local resto garage to have her lowered about a month ago and we are supposed to pick her up tonight...

well... this is her before she went into the garage... a member of the mile-high club :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/luton1971/IMG_0167.jpg

Last night, I was wondering if they've dropped her down yet so I texted to see how she is doing...
.
.
.
.
.
they sent back a text saying.... "a little something like this"......

:laughing::laughing: I know - and they can't measure her coz their floor isn't level - and they're too busy finishing her off so we can collect her later!

She's at the lowest adjustment possible though

as for pics, will have to take LOTS more! :)

Yeah, I was thinking that too - was just thinking about the really bumpy roads around here.... lol

and yes, correct-a-mundo... it's a T2D 4" narrowed beam :D

Shamrockez
14th December 2007, 20:35
Thought so - we've got the T2D 2in narrowed beam on Joey.

Those Radars give it a nice tuck too - they have an ace offset.

Dub-Diva
14th December 2007, 20:39
we wanted a set of randars, but we couldn't wait ... so got radars - they just need a really good polish up now! blingy wheels on a slammed bus... mmmmm yummy lol

Shamrockez
14th December 2007, 21:42
I like Radars better - but I might be biased cos I have them on Bella

Dub-Diva
14th December 2007, 22:37
I really like polished (or chromed) radars, my husband had them on his bug when I first met him.

Noooooooooooooooo  I'll have to convince Steve to let me lower Joey more - it was hard enough getting him as low as he is - and that's only cos I put the adjusters to the bottom while he wasn't looking ;)

Hmmm..... I've got the lowest Bug tho ;)

100% real! Steve was sitting on her tho

This was without him sitting on her:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a309/Shamrockez7/PIC_0065gr.jpg

Gonna have to put her up before I drive her tho, cos she'll be as low as the top pic with someone sitting in her  I won't get off the drive, never mind anywhere else!

Joey's:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a309/Shamrockez7/Joey/P1010056qw.jpg

lol, so who is sitting in the cab to make it go down further? hehehe :p

Our beam is on its highest adjuster so it could technically go lower (the back can't go lower, so it'd have lush rake)... but the b@st$rd council has put in (really high) speed bumps on the roads near our house  don't they realise peeps with mega-low dubs are trying to drive along their roads :laughing:

Get a sledge hammer for the speed bump ;)

Love that bug and bus combo... Old and banged up never looked so good.

Didn't really read the ins and outs of this thread, but with the drop and the new wheels on that ride you got yourself a huge improvement. Doesn't look like you've got anything left to do as far as looks are concerned!

Dub-Diva
17th December 2007, 18:23
Thanks for your kind words dudes and dudettes...

This weekend has been spent by my husband working hard (and me doing about 1 foot square!) to uncover the original white paint on the roof and the top half of the bus. The next step after that is to find a "proper" signwriter that can re-paint the original logo's back onto the sides and back after a spray-job - she will stay kinda "ratty" until then... will get the logo's rubbed back slightly though, so they don't look brand new ;)

Hey, I'm gradually creating a rut on each one every day with a scrape or two from my sump and exhaust on the way to and from town ( actually, it's more like several times a day  had to replace the bolts on the sump yesterday, as I'd lost 2 and had a monster oil leak  )

while theyre still on , you can get templates and have a vynil sign shop make you stencils .......

get the body shop to spray them on after the vans painted , you can then age them easily with scotchbrite and over-polishing ;)

Dub-Diva
17th December 2007, 18:46
we were thinking about that at the weekend, have them covered over by something and the van sprayed over the top, then peel them off and hey-presto!

ian c
17th December 2007, 18:58
the bodyshop could do that with masking tape , i was talking about getting a stencil made , to spray them back on .
but didnt notice the flowers !!!
they have a black outline , so would be more work .

still easily done using pinstripe as first edge on masking ;)

its getting harder to fing a good signwriter these days .......... i know of only 1 local to me

Dub-Diva

we haven't even started looking yet...

17th December 2007, 19:18
i only got to find out about mine because i kept my eye out for local firms vans/trucks that werent using stickers .
in the end i approached a local van hire firm that had signwritten vans .

after having several long tea-break chats with the old guy , i found more out about his interesting past .............
try to visit the fair-ground and ask around ;)

I'd be inclined to leave the paintwork on and have Nefarious add on the bottom, circa 1957 or whatever year the van is :)

Think it looks pretty cool leaving the history on it :) :o :)

I'd leave it as it is and clear coat over it or something (dunno what I'm talking about really)... Think it looks rad just the way it is.

Errrm... I can't look at the moment at the tyre sizes (but think they're 185/65/15 Bridgestone) because the bus had to go back to the bl#@dy garage to get some of the work re-done - a shock absorber had come off  and the dropped spindles were rubbing on something (brakes?) and the gear shifter was... erm... shockingly sh#te  Waiting for them to call us to tell us it's finished - yesterday was such a beautiful "dub" day... really bright, sunny and dry with a slightly cold wind... would've been a great day to uncover some more white paint! Really fed up with it being away from us - wanna get on with it :(

Thanks guys :) We're keeping the logo's but need to speak to someone that's got lots of experience in painting and who might know a signwriter (that's good!) so probably going to ring Charlie in the spring - thanks for his number Duggy :)

Oh oops, doesn't sound so good! I imagine the spindles were rubbing on the flexi brake hoses due to the narrowing.

And don't get me started on gear sticks  we had to replace the linkage on Joey when we put his new beam in and it was a nightmare trying to find all the gears. He still isn't 'right' either, but driveable!

We don't know what's wrong with her, but they said it would need to "bed in a bit" and will get better ... my question is - surely if it's rubbing and making one hell of a racket, then it's wrong... not "drive it for a few hundred miles and it'll be ok"???

Just sooooooooo pi$$ed she had to go back to be fixed when they're supposed to have done the job... ah well... that's life I suppose
