Hey guys!

Right for those of you that don't know this is Olive:

The barn she lived in...

On the truck going home...

She is our 1975 bay camper who was a barn find (she had lived there for 9 odd years) that we paid £450 for and has been sat in my garage since May!

She is a LHD converted panel van, imported from Europe back in the 80s. She's an automatic with a sunroof and twin sliders. I think she rocks! :D

Anyway, she is off to the VW specialist near me on Monday to be assessed as to how much work needs doing to get her on the road again. So he is coming down to ours and towing her up there - how exciting!

He's also gonna try and get her engine going again, which we have been told was seized by the guy we bought her from... we will see! :)

 *re-reads*

I do hope she's not going to the same garage as Petal lol.

How ace - is he gonna get her on the road?

Vickie

Lol Luc, most definately not!

Hopefully he'll get her going again yeah, especially if she doesn't require very extensive work!

How much do you reckon she'd be worth if we got her on the road again? We have no idea how much!

Around £5kish I would have thought.

I don't think there is much wrong with her actually - more likely a case of nenewing perished brake parts, fuel lines etc and getting her going.

How is the Petal saga going Vic???

Lol I'm loving the word 'saga' Pete! That it indeed is!

Had an initial hearing, the judge at that one felt it needed to go to something very similar to a trial (but in a civil law sense) where we basically argue it out for an hour or so infront of a judge.

That was 2 weeks ago, at that point he hadn't submitted any evidence in his defence. He was given 2 weeks to do so and I believe he now has. I haven't seen it yet a judge reviews it first and then the court send me a copy. So I'm just waiting on the next court date now really...

Only 11 months gone now! Grrr...

I'm hoping that will be the case Luc and that she won't need mega welding or anything. Fingers crossed! I'm dying to get started on the interior lol!

So the saga continues, and still pants. I hope you get to kick his arse.

She might need a few small bits here and there but there didn't seem to be anything major from what we could see in the bat cave.

 I just had to read this twice...

 Somethings hapening with Olive??? :D :D

Yayyyyy!!!

I've not actually seen her in the metal yet! From the pics tho she looks pretty tidy - have you actually tried to turn the engine yourself? My advice would be to do that before the garage guy comes so he can't rip you off! Especially as its an auto with a Pancake engine isn't it? I'm not sure how easy those engines are to source?

How much you got to spend on Olive? If you need welding doing speak to Mark at VDub resto (used to be Classy Campers :) ) if you mention me he'll do you a very good price and an A1 job (he does an A1 job anyway)

I hope the Petal saga gets sorted soon as well - you never know you might have 2 aircooleds on the road!

Cheers guys! Well this bloke is (this time!) a really nice guy who knows his stuff. He looks after my Mum's Golf (all the servicing etc) and has also done a lot of work on Petal in the past. Apparently he learnt his trade as an apprentice working on bugs.

We'll have to see what he says! :)

No news from the garage yet, expecting to hear something tomorrow maybe! Oooh nervewracking!

Lets us know when you know - I think we're more exciting about knowing than you are

WOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Finally had some good news about one of my veedubs!

The man from the garage rang today and said he got her up on the ramp today and apparently she is really solid and doesn't think she'll need hardly any welding, if she needs welding at all!

Also... the engine turns! Which is great as it means we don't need to buy a new one. He is just waiting for a new fuel pump to come in as her's is missing :undecided: and then he's gonna see if he can get her driving round the yard on Friday to test her and the transmisson out.

I am so chuffed! Well done Olive, seeing as Petal still isn't home she has made my xmas to know I have actually bought a bargain rather than a money pit! :)

What did I say?! :D ;)

That's great news tho! Doesn't sound like it will take much to get her on the road! :D Maybe all that was wrong with her was the fuel pump not working? Never know!

Fingers crossed :D

Be good to see Olive around Bristol soon ;)

I don't come on here reading eVVo, Lucy sent me here, honest :D :p

Vickie
11th December 2007, 22:05
Haha Jim, yeah yeah we all know the truth! ;)

Oooh I hope she'll be around the mean streets of Bristol soon too! It'd be a dream to have her at Bristol Volksfest this year :)

1958 Harry
11th December 2007, 23:11
Cool! :D

She might be on the road sooner rather than later then!

Get the guy to change the transmission fluid too - will help with the gear changes big time!

Also if the undersides all good - ask them to Waxoyl her belly to keep her good for another 30 years!

Vickie
13th December 2007, 20:10
Uh ooh looks like it's new engine time guys! Anyone seen any 2litres lying around? Lol!

Seriously though, keep eyes peeled please! :)

Shamrockez
13th December 2007, 20:14
what did he say was wrong with it?

Try Jeffrey Lawrence in Brislington - we got Skippy's engine from him.

Vickie
13th December 2007, 20:48
Luc he's not the owner of www.jeffsvwshack.co.uk (http://www.jeffsvwshack.co.uk) is he??

Story is he supplied the fuel pump for Olive and came down to help our garage dude fit it. Apparently it turned but sparks started coming from the ignition! They think a plug may have flown off at some point and embedded itself but that would involve taking the whole engine apart with still no guarantee it'd work! So.. they've recommended we either get a new engine and he'll fit it or they source an engine. But I thought it'd be cheaper if I got it then he can fit it.

Apparently he was also v. interested in Olive and offered us a part ex for any vehicle he has for sale. Hahaha don't think so!

Shamrockez
13th December 2007, 20:58
Yeah that's him! He's a really, really nice bloke - as genuine as they come.

He's got a nice Splitty for sale at the mo ;) Saw him driving it on Monday night when I was coming back from getting the new wheels!

We paid £350 for Skippy's engine - it was a recon one he'd got in a Bay he'd bought. Never had any problems with it.

BTW - whatever you do, DO NOT scrap the 1800 engine in her! The heads on them are like gold dust to get hold of! Selling them (if they're good - or the one where the plug wasn't blown) could get you half way to getting an engine!

Shamrockez
13th December 2007, 20:59
Jeff might take the 1800 in part ex against another engine. He did that with our old 1800 out of Skippy.

Vickie
13th December 2007, 21:33
Ahh good, I'm glad u said that! I was wondering about him, I am extremely wary of who gets involved in my VWs after all the trouble I've had with the bug.

I'm not sure if Olive had got a 1.8 or 2L in her. Either way it would be good if he could take it as p/x and knock a bit of money off the price. Hopefully he'll be able to find something for her! She is a cool bus and I will never p/x her for another one, I like her story too much - I think she found me!

Shamrockez
13th December 2007, 21:40
I'm sure he probably will - it's worth asking anyway!

Yeah you don't need to worry about Jeff - he's probably one of the straightest VW people in the world! He even sorted one of our friends out with some cylinder heads on Christmas Eve and he collected them on Boxing Day so they could take their Bay up to Scotland for New Year!

13th December 2007, 21:56
OHHH OLIVE IS SO LUSH....lahhhh deeee dahhhhh lahhhh, if she just needs a new engine that's lush, im not trying to convince Vix to let me drive her when she's up and running! Ill bribe her with some funky flower graphics for Olive i think! lol

Vickie
18th December 2007, 21:23
Right! Well after much debate the garage Olive is at are gonna source the engine for us, P/X our old one for it and fit it for us. Hopefully she'll be running again soon!

Fingers crossed for the gearbox being ok, otherwise it really is gonna get expensive!
