I move into my sisters in a few days... and at the bottom of her garden in a garage that she doesn't use.. so i've decided to stick the bug in it and strip it down to te bare metal.. I'm gonna get my mechanic friend to help me take out the engine and important bits then I'm gonna label and take pictures of everything and take it all out and strip the wole car...

So what's the best way??

I was reading about a guy who had his whole car sandblasted.. and it turned out great.. so I was thinking ill hire a sandblaster and give it a shot..

Has anybody used one before or done tis or know any better ways..?

Thank you

Yep label everything and take loads of pics - especially of wiring. Be careful with sandblasting though - if you're not careful you can end up rippling the panels!

have it blasted with walnut shells, it's much more gentle than with glass or sand.... not even sure you can legally sandblast anymore... and make sure you label everything - and stick bolts/screws/washers onto a piece of paper and write on it where they came from.

And if you're having it blasted, you might want to invest in one of these:

Because it will reveal holes which normally wouldn't show, or blast through very thin metal revealing holes - which is a good thing because you then find they're there and can fix them, rather than find out when an MOT inspector prods through it, or, God forbid, in a bump.

Brave man! I'd be too frightened to sand blast Petal! I expect I'd probably just end up with a big pile of rust flakes and 4 tyres!

Good luck!

Good plan :) that's what we did with Joey - we could have patched him up and hidden the horrors away, but in the long run, it would have only bitten us!

At the end of the day you're going to end up with a much more solid and safer car which you can enjoy for many years :)

 Plus you actually need to have Petal there to be able to sandblast her ;)

Any news on that front?
