Now I love these and I think there really classy but I'm not prepared to pay the stupid price for stainless steel ones!!

The chrome plated ones however are a more reasonable price..but as there not designed with our climate in mind, one winters use and they'll rust up..

Chatting to a guy the other day, he mentioned that a friend of his bought the cheap chrome plated ones and cleaned and ad them coated in clear laquer.. and they've never rusted..

Now in theory this idea sounds like it should work as by coating it in clear laquer your creating a barrier to stop the dame getting in and rusting up..

Just wondered if anybody has heard of this being done or knows anybody that has done it??

The general concensus is towel rails don't look right on post 67 bugs - but its your car - if you like em, get em!

I have stainless bumpers cost £300 for the set - money well spent IMHO. I don't know how well lacquer will stick on the chrome, plus it might take some of the shine away. Another thing to do is coat them in WD40 or something, will do the same job but the crap will stick to them. TBH if its garaged I doubt they'll rust too badly, just keep on top of it :)

You'll have to change (i.e weld earlier ones in) your bumper mounts to get pre 67 bumpers to fit. I belive you can get 'adapter' type irons... but it leaves the irons in a bizzare position.

Doesn't it make them look like the bumpers are pointing downwards? Almost like the cars sad if you look at them?

It looks very strange - I'll find a pic once VZi is back.
