John.
Just want to say thank you publicly and that I am well happy with the work done to my car. It was done about 2 weeks ago and it is brilliant. It just pulls and pulls. I drive a lot on county lanes and there is much less need for gear changes, but saying that every gear is so much better.
Not sure if I am getting any more mpg tho - lol!
Anyone thinking about getting it chipped stop thinking and give John a call cannot recommend it enough.
Cheers mate.

What lump have you had tuned??
Shamrockez

The 1.9 TDi which I have in mine (non pd. 90bhp).
Kowalski

yep 1.9 90bhp tdi. Allegedly its now about 128bhp, which isn't massive but the torque is phenomenal.

Woooooooooooooooooooooosh :D
I'm still really enjoying the extra oomph on mine - someone tried to race me up an uphill slip road onto the mway this morning - they soon regretted it :D

I'm now jelous of you two buggers with my measley 100hp  I'm getting mine done mid september for my birthday:D
These VAG group diesel lumps are bloody good aren't they, mine loves hills too, but probably not quite as much as a tuned motor:o
How are you two finding before and after drinking habbits of you bugs?:beerchug:

I got 600 miles out of a tank from Robbie in Germany. Previously I'd only ever got 500.
He got me from the middle of Germany all the way back to Somerset on one tank :D

Thats quite a bit better than mine, I get about 450-470 from full to the little dot before the red.
Shamrockez
21st August 2007, 19:45
Yeah that's pretty much what I used to get - normally up to 500 tho.
Do you fill yours to actual full tho? Depending on how I fill Robbie ranges between 80 and 160 miles to the 3/4 tank mark.

I just press the button on the pump 'till it stops. I have read on Freds TDi forum that you can press the vent button inside the filler neck and get a few more litres in there. I do about 300 miles to the half full/empty mark and would probly do another 200 to the bleep'n'light. I intend changing the fuel filter myself soon (which might help) but I want to get a vacuum sucking thing first so I can properly prime the new filter (I got air into my wifes old diesel Pug once when I changed the fuel filter and had to get the bugger bled:( ) I've got good oil in him and changed the air filter a couple of months ago. I also put a shot of diesel injector cleaner in once and a while.
I put a tad over £40 in to fill the tank from the first dot to the pump clicking off.
Any thoughts on getting better consumption?

Diesel is frothy so when it first clicks, it's not actually full! I can normally get another £10ish in by venting it (you'll feel all the air woosh out) and taking my time.

So, how much are you putting in (wonga) to fill up then?
Shamrockez
21st August 2007, 21:35
£50-55 from empty.

I got 1000km's to a tank before the chip and 1000km's to a tank since the chip but I am driving it a little harder!
Not sure how the diesel filter works on the NB but on other diesels I have seen there is a hand priming pump that you can use to prime the filter and remove any trapped air.
Other ways for reducing fuel consumption, check tyre pressures are correct, don't accelerate hard, don't change gear unless you have to, change up at 2000-2500rpm, don't brake as often. (that might sound daft but just anticipate other peoples moves) and keep your air con usage to a minimum.
And yes these VAG TDI's are excellent thats why I bought one.

Righty - I filled Robbie up today from in the red. He clicked at £42.99 and ended up on £51.55. Altho weirdly the pumped stopped and wouldn't let me take any more  perhaps there's a time limit or something on them?

Good God, that's another 2 gallons!!
Do us a favour, as you use the juice up, would you let me know how far you have done at the halfway mark and then at the last dot before empty.
thanks M

Thanks Luce, simular consumption to mine TBH.
Burty has been done:laughing:    , I mean DNA'd !!!
He was good before in 1st and 2nd, the short diesel powerband in those gears is ok anyway because you shift through those gears quickly, but now he seems to have the same "grunt" in 3rd too:eek: . I can even get the ESP to flicker in 3rd on a bend in the road:)
I don't know what Burty's consumption is like now because driving back from Johns, lets just say........I didn't really drive in an economical fashion:laughing:
I found that cruising along at about 85, If I gave it half throttle, I could overtake very easily!! Before you would have to wait a second for the engine to decide to give you power, then struggle on past:rolleyes: .
Another interesting thing I found in one of the traffic jams along the M4, was that if I trickled along in first gear (now/post DNA) the car doesn't jerk about unpleasantly (if you know what I mean??)
Oh! and the usable rev range is larger in all gears, and more consistant.
I didn't and probably will not see what his top speed is, as I cannot take the risk of being banned:confused: but, I can say that he was still pulling like a train at 99mph, and I should know cause that's what I do for a living.:D

Choo choo :D
i got Robbie up to an indicated 122mph in Germany - and there was still plenty left there! But a big bump in the road was looming and i was worried for my sump lol.
Yep - remap makes them loads smoother and you get a kick in the back in each gear, and motorway reponsiveness is much quicker.
I find slip roads are now a lot of fun :D

Duggy
10th October 2007, 14:09
oh yes indeedy! :D
mind you, i've been thinking about that and i reckon i know a way to get round the shredding of flaps issue
I reckon it was due to the severe tyre wall flexing on the 16" 55 series tyres. I bet if you stuck on a set of 15" steels fom a 1.4 and shod them in 60 or 65 series tyres with higher wall there wouldn't be so much of a problem! ;)
I wonder who will be first  :D
Shamrockez
10th October 2007, 14:17
haha I'd thought about getting either 15 or 14in wheels from a M4k and going down that route.... it's just getting hold of a decent set...
