Hey Rich
Good to have you on board - another 1.8T bugger :) have to meet up with you at a show we have a few local ones coming up if you check out the show section your car would look right @ home on an evvo stand. Any plans for it as yet?

Cheers guys, yeah im interested in going to a show or two, i'll have to check that out.
Im looking to get it lowered as soon as i get paid at the end of the month, not sure how low to go tho, think i'll just do the springs first and see how it goes. After that i'd like to sort out a nice exhaust (i like the look of the zender kit, looks like the old zoom tube) and sometime in the future get the ecu remapped wheni i get used to the performance and fancy a bit more ooomph! Gotta be careful tho because my insurance doesnt allow for performance upgrades, so might have to wait a while until i start doing things like that so i can have a hope of getting insurance on it :(

There is a certain level of detectability and undetectability in mapping no matter what any marketing for a company says!

So does that mean i could get a remap and nobody would be any the wiser?

I do sell a device that will reflash your car to standard at any time you need, this puts it back to true OEM standard and not a 'like' standard which some other tuners offer, the 'like' standard method uses a reroute in the base code and leaves huge markers everywhere if you go to look within! So taking it to the garage they'd not be able to know anything had ever been done

Oh right, sounds good. I've just had a quick look through you're site, is the "reflash" gizmo available for my car? (02 plate).
What kind of price would i be looking at to have the work carried out and how qucikly can you change between standard and remapped if i go for that option?, i.e. do i have to open the bonnet a plug something in each time i want to change it or will i be bale to do it from inside the car?
Cheers

The switchable option is £395, takes 2 minutes to switch and you do it from inside the car in the diagnostic socket in the drivers foot well

Fantastic, that sounds good to me, i best start saving my pennies first. But im definatley interested in getting that done at some point.
I've just read through the instructions for the SRS, all looks pretty straight forward to me.
Thanks for your help, no doubt i'll be in touch sometime soon with more questions and hopefully get myself booked in when i have the wonga :)

Welcome over mate. How low you thinking of going???
Im not sure how low im going to take it, i'd love to slam it, but in reality the roads round brum are either full of potholes or full of speed ramps, so it would be bye bye sump unless i got it airbagged  .
I reckon i'll just change the springs initially to see how it goes as i dont want to go spending loads on coilovers etc. Im'm thinking of going down about 50mm. I've read that thats as far as i can go before i have to start changing the droplinks and the arb's, does that sound right?
Here's a pic i made earlier :D

You'd need to put on droplinks if your 50mm + low. Try 100mm down! ;)

You'd get away with that stance with a lower profile tyre if you wanted it sitting like that - atm them tyres would kill your arch!

Nice Bug, love the BRMs.
You're supposed to change the drop links if you're a pre 02 Beetle going lower than 40mm.

So will i need drop links as mine is an '02' plate? or is it just bugs made before '02', im a bit confused now
Im guessing my mechanic will have a vague idea if i ask him or i'll go hunt down a vw specialist in b'ham and pick their brains.
All i want to do really is drop it so i get rid of the huge gap between the wheels and the arches, but i also want it at a sensible(ish) height so i can negotiate speed bumps without losing the underneath of my car.
Sorry to be asking loadsa questions but i haven't got a clue as you can see :)

Rich if your looking for a VW specialist in the midlands head down to Midland VW and speak to Jackie or Jody - VAG specialist with 20+ yrs of experience and certainly know their stuff. They do all the work on my bug and hubby's Golf and they wont rip you off or feed you no sales cack either. There's a show at Awesome GTI on Sunday in Cheshire if you're around after that we're @ Tatton Park Manchester if u fancy a meet up. We can have a good chat as mine is a 1.8T like yours which has been given some of John's wonder treatment ;)

As for the shows, im working this weekend so i wont be able to make it im afraid, i will come to one tho when i get a couple more things done to my bug and i have a free weekend

Erm I can't remember :o I just know it was sometime in 2002. Your mechanic should be able to see. Mine's dropped about 75mm and i use him daily, but I have to watch where i go and have ripped off my exhaust before now! 40mm is a very good compromise between practicallty and lowness. Plus you don't have to add drop links.
