Hey all :)
Just thought id introduce myself before i have a good look at the site. My names Jodie, Im from South Wales & im 22. I dont actually have a Beetle yet :( but i am looking :D . Im driving a Citroen C2 at the moment & even though i love it, ive decsided to sell it so me & my Fiance can put a deposit down on a new car each. Ive loved Beetles since I was about 15 so my Fiance suggested i get myself one.
Just a quick question though, is there any common problems i should be loking out for before i buy?? Im looking to buy a 2002ish Beetle.
Take care all
Jodie

Enjoy your stay at evvo :)
What type of Bug are you looking to buy  Most common thing to look out for is the cambelt and ask when if at all it has been changed ;)
Have Fun :D

Nope the 1.4 came as a tintop too. I wouldn't go for that engine tho cos it's not really big enough to power the Bug, and it revs too high at speed i think.
Have you considered the 1.8T and the 1.9TDi - both very popular engines on here.

My boyfriend would love me to have the 1.8T but i only passed my test 17 months ago so i dont think i could afford the insurance :(

Hello Jodie and welcome have a look at the 1.9 tdi as the insurance group is the same as the 1.6? and plus the tax is cheaper on the 1.9???

Welcome to the nut hut!
TDi's don't turn up that often but are worth considering. Check for the windows (electric ones) as they have a "characteristic" fault of falling down. Also check the heated wing mirrors as the elements wear out quickly. Also on 2002 and pre models check the roof seals for rust in the guttering.
Enjoy the fun here :D

Thank you very much :D
Im off to have a look at a Bug tomorow - Its a 2002 reg 1.6 with 42k on the clock & its up for £6995 - does this sound about right??

That's not bad. You could try and knock a few hundred of it ;)
As said before the car is 5 years old and should have had a cam belt change (and water pump) by now. If it hasn't you have a case to knock around 3-4 hundred off as that would be the price a VW dealer would charge to change them. The cam-belt should be change every 4 years or 50K (or is it 60K) miles. Anyway the 4 year rule is correct!
What colour is the one you're looking at?
