Tools needed:
13mm socket
Philips screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
Allen Keys
45 Torx bit (if on v early Bug).

Ok first thing's first - disconnect the battery. Since you're going to be unplugging air bags, you don't want them being set off in your face! That would be pretty dangerous - and you'd need some more new seats!

I'll start with the rear seats cos they're the easiest.

First pull on the cord to pull the base forward, then tip the rear of it upwards so you can see under it.

There's 2 little hook things which slot into holes under the carpet. To remove them, just pull on them sideways till they're free.

Take the base out of the Bug and put it out of the way. Next flip the back of the seat down and use a screwdriver to lever the cog thingy round so you can pull the locating pins out

Then do the other side. About 1/3 of the way along the back seat there's a zip - undo it to reveal 2 allen key bolts, remove them and the material from around the T piece and the seat back lifts out:

Refitting is the reverse of removal. Should take you 30 mins max.

Then onto the front seats. You need to use a small flat head to remove the plastic caps to reveal screws on the plastic covers going over the seat runners - undo that screw:

Then adust the back rest till it's facing as forward as it can:

Then slide the seat forward to reveal either 2 torx bolts:

Or 2 13mm bolts:

Undo those, and unclip the airbag wire:

Then slide the seat back, it will fall off the runners and come right out:

Put the new seat back in the same way as the old one came out. Make sure the air bag connectors are the same - otherwise you need to splice the connector block from the old seat onto the new seat.

Do the same on the other side and admire your handwork:

Reconnect the battery, then cautiously restart the car. If you've done it all right, there will be no fuss. Make sure you do reconnect the air bags tho - don't think that because they're different connections they'll be ok left alone - the car might panic that they're not plugged in and set something off.
