Anyone else going to Stonor Park (http://uk.geocities.com/britishvwevents@btinternet.com/index.html) this year?

This is one of my fave shows - beautiful cars in beautiful surroundings and always a great atmosphere :)

Looks like a good one to go to but cant find a postcode on their site so I can see how far away it is - does anyone know??

This is Stonor Park's website (http://www.stonor.com/home.htm).

Postcode is RG9 6HF...just up the road from Henley-on-Thames :)

Never been to this one, but thinking about going this year as it looks a really nice show.

Go on Luce - you know you want to - I'd finally get to meet you! :D

I've been for the last five years - although it's a bit of a trek down from Peterborough, I wouldn't miss it for the world :)

Ant's pics from last year are here (http://www.jscarter.net/images/Stonor/Web/index001.html) to tempt any doubters ;)

Shamrockez
18th May 2007, 13:15
Yes it would be great to finally meet you :D

Pics look great - looks a lovely setting. From what I've heard it's the kind of show Steve and I would really enjoy.

bugjemm
18th May 2007, 14:24
I'm sure you'd love it - some of our non-VW friends have throughly enjoyed themselves at Stonor...and we even managed to get Ian that far out of Wales one year ;)

Delenn
25th May 2007, 11:49
Is evvo having a stand or is it a general free for all?

I've almost managed to convince t'other to come. Think him getting a goof has had a positive effect :D

bugjemm
25th May 2007, 11:56
It doesn't seem like anyone's arranged a stand. To be honest you don't normally get much space on them and the stands are quite expensive IIRC. I did sneak onto a club stand last year but this year Bertie'll be in the 'car park' (that means the big meadowy hill leading up to the manor house) or, possibly, in the show and shine, as it's closer to the main action ;)

Delenn
25th May 2007, 11:59
Syd needs a lot of cleaning to get him anywhere near a show n' shine ;). So the car park it is then :)

Betting that we'll end up with loads of stuff for the golf rather and syd

bugjemm
25th May 2007, 12:13
LOL - I'm not expecting any prizes for Bertie if he is parked in the show and shine but he should be fairly sparkly...Ant's been promising to claybar him again for ages and as the mk2 is vacating the garage on Sunday (only two months after we sold it), he's apparently gonna get a proper valeting :D

Top Stonor tip for today: make sure to pack some sunlotion...whatever the weather forecast ;)

Delenn
25th May 2007, 12:31
Sheesh, I still remember the sun burn from Kimbolton and GTi international all those years ago!

Factor 50 at least!

you have to pay for a club stand ?! WTF is that about....i agree with paying for an entrance fee but paying for a stand as well that seems well steep IMO

Is the S&S area flat? Robbie doesn't 'do' hills in fields... sorta fancy putting him in it as now he's looking quite good since he's lost his grubby interior :)

bugjemm
27th May 2007, 14:37
There used to be a few shows where you had to pay for a club stand - not sure what the score is these days as it's a few years since I ran a club/forum. I am pretty sure you have to pay for Stonor Park though. Ant thinks the main reason is to stop people booking club stands 'willy nilly'.

Luce - the whole show is effectively in a field. The drive in is up a gentle hill but it's gravel IIRC. You then turn left and drive 'across' the slope and then drive down to the show and shine bit, which is usually on a gentle slope. It's a smooth meadow rather than a bumpy field though (if you see what I mean  ). Bertie doesn't really like speed bumps but he's never had a problem at Stonor...

Bertie and I are looking forward to meeting you and Robbie and to meeting porschetrimr for the first time too :D

Shamrockez
27th May 2007, 14:44
Robbie has trouble on most showgrounds  got grounded at Stanny :o

Stanny is rather bumpy tho!

Shamrockez
27th May 2007, 14:44
Oh yes and we're very much looking forward to meeting you, and I'm sure Robbie's looking forward to swapping tips with Bertie

bugjemm
27th May 2007, 14:47
God I hope they don't talk too much ...

Hmm - I don't think Stonor's as bumpy as Stanford Hall - I reckon you'll be safe enough - there's so many low cars there they must be able to move around - but don't hold me to it! :D

Shamrockez
27th May 2007, 14:52
I hope not! Better keep our eye on them!

Should be ok then - I've never failed to get him onto a showground - I just have to bulldoze my way through :D

27th May 2007, 15:11
This is the SHow that's 2 mins from me. :)

Tents, caravans etc welcome if people are travelling far and want to get there the day before and rest overnight in my field ;)

Pay for a stand  We'll have to see about that :p

bugjemm
29th May 2007, 10:54
Thanks for the offer of somewhere to camp Danny...I'm too old for that malarky unless it's absolutely necessary, so we'd already booked somewhere not too far away with a comfy bed ;)

And as of Sunday, we now have an empty garage in which to clean Bertie :D

Shamrockez
30th May 2007, 11:36
What time do you have to be there for the S&S. I read you had to be in place by 12ish but surely you gotta be there earlier than that?

bugjemm
30th May 2007, 11:43
I've double-checked the website and it def says you have to be in place by 12.15, with judging starting at 12.30 sharp...so I guess it won't matter what time you arrive as long as it's before 12.15...

We're aiming to get there about 9.30 - will be nice not to be getting up at 6am to manage that this year!

Shamrockez
30th May 2007, 11:49
I imagine we'll arrive at about that sorta time too. Don't like getting to shows too late cos they get a bit crowded sometimes.

bugjemm
30th May 2007, 11:54
I'm getting excited already :o I love Stonor Park - just hope the weather improves else we'll all be needing these http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/images/smilies/smiles2/umbrella.gif

Fingers crossed it does! It's supposed to be nearly June!

bugjemm
30th May 2007, 12:00
Hard to believe though huh? I went to hang some washing in the garden earlier cos the sun was shining but when I got out there it was drizzling

I think I'll be packing for rain and shine

Shamrockez
30th May 2007, 12:23
Pack for just rain - that way it'll be sunny

I know, it's annoying - I want to finish painting the drive and get a bit of paint on the decking, and mow the lawn, but it's not looking likely!

bugjemm
30th May 2007, 13:57
It's now properly raining here, so the washing's hanging up around the house *sigh*. I'm just waiting for my Dad to decide that him and Ant can't work in the rain anymore, so that Ant can come home and make the sun come out again just like yesterday :D

I'll hide some sunny weather clothes at the bottom of my weekend bag - the weather'll never notice

Shamrockez
30th May 2007, 14:27
 cunning plan! :D

Raining here too.... guess I won't get any of the things i wanted to do to the house done!

I'm pretty sure you just turn up for the show and shine - if not, we'll just have to create an evvo area in the car park ;)

*4 sleeps to go :D*

DARYL - BMS
31st May 2007, 10:35
Dan, you can just turn up and go to the organisers tent, easy peasy. If you enter the modified new beetle class Dan I reckon you'll win. Shame, I won't be at any shows this month lol!

No prob ... a post on VZI's just reminded me to point out that there is pretty much no mobile reception at Stonor Park, so don't go arranging to meet people by texting when you get there and don't rely on your phone if you need to find out something important while you're there!

Good job the football season's over then. Doug would go spare if he couldn't check the footy scores

Thanks for the tips Jemm :)

bugjemm

LOL @ footy scores!

You're lucky they can't physically move Stonor Park Dan - the year I moved up to Peterborough was the year Brian moved Action from the East of England Showground (about 4 miles away from me) down to the Herts County showground! At least it's back up my way again now it's at Santa Pod :D
